Where To Get the Best Fish Tacos in Mahahual

Fish tacos

Fish tacos have gained much popularity in recent years. The seaside resort of Mahahual in the Costa Maya is still a functioning fishing village, where boats go out and return daily to deliver their catch to the local restaurants. Any seafood you order in Mahahual is liable to be freshly caught. Let’s take a look at some places to get the best fish tacos in Mahahual.

If you’re from north of the border, the word might well conjure into your mind the Tex-Mex version; a hard, crispy, U-shaped tortilla shell filled with seasoned ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes and shredded cheese. That, however, is not Mexican, nor will you find it in the Yucatan (provided you don’t stumble onto a chain restaurant in Playa Del Carmen or Cancun). In the Yucatan, a taco is a soft corn tortilla with either beef, corn or seafood, which you simply roll together with your index finger and thumb and chomp down. Most fish tacos are served on a bed of corn tortillas in a small corn tortilla. Tacos, like most authentic Mexican foods, are rarely eaten as served, and you’re likely to get some items on the side, which might include fresh chopped onions, cilantro, lime, and chopped fresh tomatoes, guacamole and salsa. All of these sides work wonderfully on fish tacos, and Mahahual is certainly one of the best places in the Mexican Caribbean to find fish Tacos.

Krazy Lobster Beach Club and Grill, a great place to chill

Forget the menu and simply order lobster, fish or shrimp tacos. Krazy Lobster will take it from there. Here you’ll find a huge beach club with loungers, hammocks, and kayaks, along with snorkeling equipment and snorkel tours, should you care to venture out into the beautiful bay. Free wifi is also available. The Krazy Lobster is a great place to take in the beach, a fish taco lunch, and cold drinks.
Open 8 am to 6 pm daily on the central Malecon.

Open Tuesday-Sunday 9:30 am- 11 pm.

Nohoch Kay

Fish tacos at Nohoch Kay are certainly incredible, but we took the advice of Paul from Georgia and asked for their chipotle sauce on the side. Smoky and spicy, it finishes off the flavor of the fresh fish, the cold cabbage and other sides and spices served with your tacos.
Open 7am-10pm daily and located on the southern end of the malecon.

Now that you know where the best tacos are, here are places we can recommend you stay.
