Good cooking and eating basically run in our veins, and with those qualities also comes the expertise in finding great places to eat. Visitors from all over the world have already tried the best restaurants in this area, but there are still lots of undiscovered placed that have a lot to offer for our curious foodie travelers. We invite you to visit these places and try different flavors.
If you have been in Tulum you might know by now the famous restaurants in Tulum beach road. But you might be surprised to discover the amazing taco places that can be found in Tulum pueblo. They are not only very affordable but also the favorites of travelers. It is only a short trip from Tulum beach road to the main town. Taqueria Honorio is our to-go place because they are the kings for tacos in the area. The places have been recently renovated and now provides a table and chairs for clients and even parking! Taqueria Honorio is located on Satelite Avenue in Tulum pueblo. They are open from 7:00 am until noon or 1:00 pm sometimes. And you can find carnitas tacos (pork), relleno negro, tortas and more. Each taco goes from $17.00 pesos and up. Our second favorite taco place in Tulum is Chiapaneca Taqueria, located on the main Avenue of Tulum right next to the ADO bus station. You will find tacos there for $8.00 pesos each.
Akumal features some interesting places to eat, not very popular or known to travelers. It is easy to cross the bridge that connects the beach side with Akumal Pueblo. And believe us, the walking distance will be worth it. Our favorite spot and also very close to the entrance is Cosme’s Taqueria. A nice little taco place offering tortas and tacos: beef, pork, pastor and chorizo. As soon as you enter Akumal pueblo you will see Cosme’s Taqueria on your right side, right next to the official Taxi station. They are open from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm. Continuing the same road but a little bit up the hill, you will see Varon Taqueria, our second favorite taco place in Akumal Pueblo. Varon Taqueria, however, is only open in the mornings from 7:00 am until noon more or less. Tacos in Akumal pueblo can cost $12.00 pesos per taco.
Playa del Carmen is loaded with taco places but we also have our favorite ones. Cochinita pibil, which is pork, is one of the most popular Yucatecan dishes. Therefore, Cochinita pibil tacos are the most popular ones. We recommend La Cochi-Loka taqueria on 10th street between 5th and 10th Avenue. They are open in the mornings and at night as well. Now, if you are wondering who is the King of tacos in Playa del Carmen, Taqueria El Fogon has always owned the number one spot. The most delicious tacos and taco sides: pastor, asada, chorizo, arrachera and more. Plus their fruity fresh water is incomparable. There are two Taquerias El Fogon in Playa del Carmen. Located on 30th Avenue between 6th and 8th street, and the second one is on Constituyentes Avenue with 30th Avenue, right across La Mega supercenter. What we love about El Fogon Taquerias are their opening hours. They open around noon and close until 2:00 am. Perfect for a late-night craving. Another cool idea is to try more than just one taco place, taco tours and food tours are available in Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and Playa del Carmen. It is super easy to get a quote for your group. If you want to take a step forward and get a closer experience with the Mexican cuisine, this might be an amazing opportunity for you.
