Traveling to Mexico is a unique experience for all of the senses. The beautiful beaches of Riviera Maya are breathtaking sight stimulating sensations all over your body from your feet in the soft warm sand to the fragrant smell of the ocean breeze that runs through your hair. One of the most exciting adventures you’ll live in Mexico is the explosion of flavors that will tantalize your palate.
The Riviera Maya is visited by travelers from all over the world and has quickly become a one of a kind gastronomic experience. Akumal is quickly becoming an important venue for excellent dining catering to a large international community as well as the daily meal that every Mexican household enjoys.
La Palapa in Chemuyil has long been a favorite among tourists, it’s low key vibe offers travelers the opportunity to share a meal with locals with a simple authentic Mexican food that won’t make a huge dent in your wallet.
Today Akumal pueblo offers more dining options than ever before right across the highway. There’s Tequillaville which has been a longstanding staple, Cocina Economica which offers delicious daily menus at a very budget-friendly price, Dona Lucy’s homemade tamales (just four doors down from Los 3 Hermanos corner store) and flavorful rotisserie chickens from Dona Chole.
Among the newest headliners are Cosme’s Taqueria which is the first stop to your right upon entering Akumal. Cosme has been part of Akumal’s community for over 18 years. Three year’s ago he finally opened his own restaurant and it is a true delight to find such a lovely place to enjoy a meal under 10 USD.
When you arrive at Cosme’s Taqueria you’ll be greeted with a smile and excellent service. Their Platillo mixto includes lomito entomatado (beef in tomato), carne asada, chicken strips, rotisserie chicken, and a special mix of beef, ham, onions, and tomato. These are served with rice, beans, salad, tortillas, and bread all for $150 Mexican pesos (don’t forget to tip).
Another new and soon to be favorite is Los Columpios de Frida featuring, burritos, baguettes sandwiches, and pasta. This restaurant is owned and operated by a group of friends that offer a cool new vibe to dining in the pueblo with a colorful decor and swings to enjoy the sunset while you enjoy a drink or wait for your dinner.
There’s even a brand new pizzeria in town right next door, Los Compadres. Just like Cosm’es, Los Compadres is perfect for a family take-out dinners or a quick bite on the go!
