Love is literally in the air — the days are sunnier, the breeze is warmer, and everything in Riviera Maya screams love.
Even couples seem to be holding hands and hugging more as Valentine’s Day approaches. While there are lots of ways and touristy places to spend the day, we want to highlight the extra special places that give a romantic vibe. If you are traveling to the Riviera Maya this year for Valentine’s Day or any day for that matter, here are a few of our favorite places in the Riviera Maya to celebrate romance.
If you have not visited yet, Xenses Park is the ultimate couples’ place.
Our favorite activity is the Xensatorium. There is nothing more romantic than holding hands and entering the different ecosystems in a pitch-black environment. The floating experience inside the Riverlaxing is also the perfect excuse to give your partner a massage.
The park is open from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm every day of the week. The rates go from $62.00usd per person.
We also love the tour at Xplor Park. For couples, we don’t mean the regular, daytime zip line circuit everyone seems to love. We suggest the nightly tour you can take with your spouse or partner in crime. Everything is more romantic at night, especially the Tiki torches that light the jungle. One of our favorite highlights of this adventure is the underground river and the rafts tour. This adventure is perfect for couples who love adrenaline. The tours start at 5:30 in the evening and end at 11:30 pm.
Participating in a Temazcal ceremony and visiting cenotes are great options for couples who yearn for a more spiritual experience of love and enjoy relaxing together.
For couples who enjoy more of a relaxing and spiritual experience, we recommend participating in a Temazcal ceremony and visiting cenotes.
A Temazcal is a type of sweat lodge that originated with the Maya and other pre-Hispanic indigenous people in Mexico and South America. It is used to cleanse and health the body, mind, and spirit.
Dos Palmas near Tulum offers visitors an opportunity to experience a Temazcal ceremony and the cenote. An official shaman or priest performs the Mayan ritual. The shared experience can help bring you closer to your partner and is ideal for couples who want to take a break from the agitations of daily life and want to pamper themselves. Dos Palmas also has a gorgeous cenote, which is a refreshing compliment to the Temazcal ceremony. Rates start at $200.00usd per person with transportation included.
Cenote Santa Cruz is also a magnificent choice, especially for travelers staying close to Akumal. It is located on the right side of the Akumal jungle. Exploring the inside of a cavern and underground cenote with your partner can be a mystical experience.
Visitors are welcomed as long as they have a previous reservation. Rates go from only $50.00usd per person. As usual, the key is to book in advance to secure availability.
For our travelers who love to explore on their own, we also have tons of options.
The quiet and crystal waters of Kaan Luum lagoon are an invitation for relaxing. The lagoon is only 9 kilometers from the Tulum Pueblo, and away from the crowds.
There is also a stunning private beach named Xcacel-Xcacelito, right between Akumal and Tulum. The entrance per person ranges between $60.00 pesos to $100.00 pesos. Both places are beautiful and peaceful and can be the perfect setting for a romantic morning.
Our recommendations to enjoy any of these places are:
