The Mayan ruins of Muyil located just south of the Tulum Pueblo are some of the best in Riviera Maya. They are not famous like Chichen Itza, but they have a mysterious beauty all their own. Set in the lovely Yucatecan jungle near the shores of a tranquil lagoon, these ruins are believed to have been an important stop in the ancient Maya’s maritime trade route along the coast. The lagoon of Muyil is linked to the Caribbean sea by a canal system that was hand dredged by the Maya.
