If you ever feel like you’ve had enough beach time during your Cancun vacation, or if you’re looking for a lovely way to spend an evening or a rainy day, you can keep enjoying the city by visiting one of its stunning shopping centers. A year-round warm climate makes the outdoor malls a favorite stop for locals and tourists alike, and it’s easy to find cheap, mid-range, and luxury options for shopping as well as dining. Keep reading to see what you can find at each of our three favorite malls in Cancun.
Location: Hotel Zone, Kilometer 12
Probably Cancun’s most renowned (and most beautiful) shopping mall, La Isla Shopping Village is known to locals simply as “Plaza La Isla”. Plaza La Isla sits right on Nichupté Lagoon, offering two waterfront decks with amazing sunset views, and it also has several bridges going over its Venice-style canal. The “Marina” section has a row of affordable open-air restaurants by the lagoon, or you can head to the other side of the mall to enjoy upscale lagoon front dinners at Thai Lounge or Elefanta. The main part of Plaza La Isla has mid-range stores like Zingara, Express, souvenir stores, etc., while the newer Fashion Harbour section is home to upscale designer boutiques like Louis Vuitton and Prada.
Location: Inside Puerto Cancun
This outdoor mall boasts an easily accessible location for locals and travelers, set right between the Hotel Zone and Downtown Cancun in the luxurious Puerto Cancun neighborhood. Mostly you’ll find mid-range stores here, like Zara and H&M, and the mall also has one of Mexico’s popular Cinepolis VIP movie theaters with waiter service and reclining lounge seats. The food court is especially beautiful, featuring waterfront views and gourmet cuisine.
Location: Downtown Cancun, Avenida Bonampak
By far the most popular mall for Cancun locals, this shopping center is attached to the older Plaza Las Americas. Here, you’ll find several mid-range restaurants close to the entrance, along with an upstairs food court for cheaper options. Shops include a variety of Mexican, European and American clothing stores, an Apple store, MAC, a Liverpool department store, and a variety of other mid-range choices. Malecon Americas also has Cancun’s top movie theater: a large Cinepolis with a luxury VIP theater. Travel tip: This mall is especially popular on Sunday afternoons, so visit on Saturday or a weekday if you want to avoid the crowds.
