The Planetarium in Playa del Carmen opened in 2015. It is for all ages though there is an emphasis on courses and programs for children.
The Sayab Planetarium has four areas to visit. The Universal Dome, the Observatory, Special Events and Exhibits, and courses that focus on science, technology and the environment.
The Observatory is uniquely connected to the Observatories in Cancun, Chetumal and Cozumel to further scientific research and data collection.
The two telescopes in the Observatory are a 16 inch Mead LX200 with the Schmidt Optic System and the Takahashi FS60.
Course and exhibitions are popular in this space, with classes and summer classes running daily. Classes focus on science, technology, culture and Mayan history, as the Maya were some of the greatest world wide astronomers.
The Planetarium is located in Playa del Carmen in the east part of the city. on Central Avenue between 115 Street and 125 Street. Hours are from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm with special events or courses listed for each day of the week.
