This is a photo taken in Akumal Bay on a morning snorkel. We love going out early into the bay and looking for turtles. We feel that the day just starts off right when you put on our snorkel gear and head to the sea or Yal Ku Lagoon in search of our sea friends. The Caribbean side of the Mexico is well-known for sea turtles and programs that protect the various varieties of sea turtles that call this part of Mexico home. After living here for 20 years, the day seems off when we don’t make a trip down to the beach at some point, though a morning swim with the turtles seems to just hit the spot.
Check out places to stay in Akumal so you can join us on a morning turtle snorkel or discover these water areas for yourself. Just remember, don’t touch the turtles, know you are in their domain, and respect the sea each and every day! Snorkeing in both Yal Ku Lagoon and the Akumal Bay is easy and perfect for young kids who want to try snorkeling for the first time!
