If you are in for a good time and want to help a local cause, the 8th Annual Akumal Auction is coming up May 3, 2017. From 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm bid at the live auction, listen to the ever popular Salty Snowbirds and catch up with dear friends at the Lol Ha Beach Bar under their north Palapa.
The Salty Snowbirds will have you clapping, singing along and loving the sultry voice of this magical duo that performs to standing room only crowds in the Lol Ha Bar each Saturday night. Their generous donation of time and music sets the right tone. You will love them and just may want to go back for more May 6 when they perform their weekly Saturday night show from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Lol Ha Restaurant.
This is the third time they have joined us for the fundraiser on the beach so don’t miss it.
From 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm the live auction will be shoowcasing a host of donated items to the highest bidder. Thanks to the generosity of hotels, local businesses and tour companies, there are plenty of items and there are no reserves. All items will be sold by the end of the auction. Anyone can bid, and everyone is welcome.
If you are unfamiliar with the Hekab be Library, (in English Hekab be means Open Road) read on about this magical community library that is more than just a place to read.
For over 21 years the Akumal Hekab Be Library has supported learning, discovery, and better futures for both local residences and visitors through their mission to promote literacy, increase learning opportunities, engage and excite all age groups. Their activities and after school programs enhance the learning process and help people achieve their educational goals.
The library is just the tip of the iceberg to supporting the community. Children have free after school programs, and all ages have access to free English, Music, Art, Environmental Education, and Yoga classes. Learning goes beyond just words at the Hekab be Library, a commitment that has created so many engaged children and adults in their programs.
Education is a tool to social and economic progress. Beyond the literacy and language improvements, programs have promoted cultural preservation and understanding.
The library is supported through the generosity of individual donations and grants. It has survived in spite of a lack of municipal, state and federal support. As a community, they are proud to further their mission and programming with an event such as the annual Akumal Adult Spring Breaker Group.
Join the Akumal community and friends May 3 at Lol Ha beach Bar from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm where you can be a part of the Akumal community and support the library, a safe and nurturing place that furthers education and literacy needs.
If you find yourself away from the Akumal area on May 3 cash donations to support the Library can be submitted online.
