There are some new glorious roof tops in Playa del Carmen you need to check out. We have been to them all and loved the views, the service and the cocktails! Nice thing is you don’t have to be a guest at the hotel to share in these luxurious spots.

Thompson Hotel Roof Top

This is the latest roof top to join a great list of spectacular views found in Playa del Carmen. Located on 12th Street between 5th and 10th Street, you are in the heart of the city without feeling like you are. You can go to the bar at C Grill or Cinco for lunch, dinner or a just a cocktail. If you love what you see, you can buy a day pass for $50 USD and enjoy all the facilities (infinity pools, lounge chairs and sun beds) and work your way through the $40 USD food credit that is part of your entrance fee.

Sanbourn’s Roof Top Restaurant

Most visitors are not familiar with this very popular Mexican restaurant that is part of the Sanborn’s Department Store. Think of the Nieman Marcus restaurant, or if you are Canadian, the old Simpson’s restaurant. Sanborn's is very similar to this concept and has a beautiful roof top seating area in their Quinta Alegria Store at 5th Avenue and Constituyentes. There is always a monthly special and a great happy hour from 4 pm to 7 pm. Enjoy the view, the inexpensive prices and relish in a Mexican tradition.

Hotel El Cielo Roof Top

Located on 4th Street between 5th and 10th Street, the newly renovated rooftop at Hotel El Cielo is great! Ask the front reception for access to the roof and enjoy cocktails, or if you ask really nicely, dinner, as you overlook the Caribbean Sea. This is a great private space for small parties and events. The food at Carboncito’s, the hotel’s restaurant, is worth writing home about. Waiters are friendly, owners are gracious, and you will feel like part of the family.

The unfortunate news about rooftop patios is the the rooftop we loved at Hotel Cacao on 5th Avenue and 34th Street has been turned into an all inclusive adult-only hotel so we can no longer enjoy this wonderful space. This news is what prompted us to search out some new places with spectacular views that are open to the public.

Enjoy these new roof top restaurants and places to play during your stay in Playa del Carmen. If you are visiting for the day, check them out as you will have a very different view of Playa from these roof top spots.
