There are a slew of local weekly markets in the Riviera Maya that offer not only great produce and homemade baked goods, but a unique look into the local culture. Markets are frequented by locals and visitors, making this an activity, not just a shopping experience. Local markets are a great way to meet others, check out local businesses, and dig into the unique products that entrepreneurs have created.

Weekly Market Schedule in the Riviera Maya

Note: This schedule can change. At the time of writing these markets were open on the days indicated but new markets, or temporary closures are possible. Check Facebook or the market’s website for more details.

Tuesday Markets

Kava Kasa – 22nd street between 5th and 10th Avenue – organic produce, artisans, homemade baked goods, jams and salsas. 11:00 am to 1:00 pm

Wednesday Markets

Puerto Morelos Weekly Market – Located to the west of the town square beside the church on Avenida Tulum. Produce, baked goods, home made meals, and local artisans. Sellers change weekly. 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.

Papalote Market – This market is located in the school and is only open during the school year. It is a selection of produce, home baked goods, homemade products and artisans. Located on 30th street and 25th Avenue. 1 pm to 3 pm.

Akumal Farmers Market – This market is about produce and fruit as there are few grocery stores in this beach town. Located just inside the arches when you enter the main pueblo of Akumal, to the left. 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.

Thursday Markets

Paamul Farmers Market – in the little village of Paamul to the north of Playa del Carmen. Organic produce and fruit, homemade baked goods, artisans and preserves. They also have music as well. 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

Friday Markets

Coco Beach Eco Market – this is one of the first weekly markets founded in the Riviera Maya. There is a nice mix of organic produce, handmade and homemade baked goods and preserves, artisans and other fun things. It is located in Coco Beach just off CTM (46th street) and beach. 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

El Jardin Breakfast Market – Join artisans and bakers for this morning market where you can also enjoy breakfast with friends. This eat and shop concept is new and dates could change over time. Keep your self posted on their Facebook page. 9:00 am to 11:00 pm

Saturday Markets

El Arbol Market – Located in Playacar Phase 2 this weekly market is all about family and organics. 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Sunday Markets

Mayakoba Farmers Market is the newest market in the Riviera Maya. For a few hours on Sunday you can enter this resort and enjoy their ‘Pueblito’ where permanently housed restaurants and artisan shops are joined by over 30 sellers. This is an eclectic market with food, preserves, ice cream, beer, and candy. Many things can be eaten while you are shopping, the artisans have great gifts you can take home. Enjoy the restaurants and coffee shop, or browse through their permanent store of Mexican clothes, unique silver house wares and the famous hand bags made by inmates who are now called themselves the Prison Artists.

Jungle Spa Market – In Puerto Morelos, a community of Mayan women have created a local hand craft and breakfast area in the Colonia and ZOna Urbana where the Jungle Market is located. Enjoy great locally made crafts, honey, clothes while you treat yourself to a Yucatecan breakfast. Women and men have a vaqueria, a local dance festival that lets everyone join in and learn more about the local culture. Located on Calle 2 North in the Zone Urbana in Puerto Morelos. 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Monthly Markets in the Riviera Maya

Isla Mujeres Art Market – Once a month on a Friday.
Parque La Ceiba – Third Saturday of each month in Playa del Carmen
Aldea Farmers Market – On the Coba Road in Tulum heading towards the beach the first Sunday of each month.
Puerto Morelos Craft Market – Held quarterly, this market is in Casa Caribe Hotel and has over 40 artisans in attendance.
