Not sure if the general public is aware but Mexico decided over a year ago to support a NO GMO agriculture law! Local farmers protested to their state governments who then took the request to the Feds. Quickly the farmers were granted their wish, no GMO seeds are allowed in the country. Yipppeeee!!

Throughout the coast local organic and farmers markets are springing up to support local farmers and support our health. It is fantastic that organic produce that is GMO free is found so readily in the Rivera Maya. Now an organic market does imply food, but many of the markets that we are going to list include local artists and locally made foods from organic products. ie, you can find hand woven scarfs beside packaged organic salsas, which is beside an organic fruit stall. We love that the markets are not just fresh food based. Supporting artists, producers, and farmers in one market makes these events more bang for your buck and time.

One note, and this is an important note. The dates and places listed are as organic as the products. As much as we would love to guarantee that these markets will be running each and every week, which in most cases they do, there are times when the markets decide to take a break, or move, or change their time. So if you decided to walk to one of the markets and it is not where or on the date that we have listed, please do not shoot the messenger. We have put together a list for our guests and friends but it might be best to inquire around town to see if the market is happening that week.
