While thousands of people look forward to playing golf when on vacation in the Riviera Maya, few actually know about Puerto Aventuras Golf and Racquet Club. Because not many people know about it, you can take as many shots as you want without feeling rushed. The greens and bunkers are in good shape and the two different pins per hole give not just 9 holes to play but 18 holes to play.
Located just 20 minutes south of Playa del Carmen and 15 minutes north of Akumal, this lovely 9-hole, par 36 golf course remains one of Riviera Maya’s best-kept secrets. Designed by Tomas Lehman – the only golfer in history to have been awarded the Player of the Year honor on all three PGA Tours, Puerto Aventuras Golf Course is a great practice course.
On the down side, the facilities are not as extensive as other golf courses and there is no practice range here, but with new management in place, some improvements have already been made.
On the positive side, this course is cheaper and plays quicker than most of the other golf courses in the Riviera Maya.
Tomas Lehman wanted to feaure the unique landscape found in the Riviera Maya in his golf course design. He successfully did just that. Puerto Aventuras Golf and Racquet Club optimizes the Yucatan jungle and used the natural landscape of palm trees, bougainvilleas, and mystic cenotes – freshwater sink holes – to make this course challenging yet beautiful.
