While the white powder beaches and turquoise waters of Riviera Maya attract numerous movie stars and millionaires, Half Moon bay is one of those paradise-like destinations that allows you to experience the best of the Caribbean and stay within your budget.
The Playa Blanca condominiums is a great property that proves this point. Located in North Akumal overlooking Half Moon Bay, it offers excellent snorkeling and beach combing. (just don’t forget your water shoes!)
The smart layout of Playa Blanca makes the maximum out of stunning sea views in every beachfront condo. The beach level units come with a private patio and provide direct access to the white powder beach. The second level condos have an ocean view terrace, perfect for enjoying your coffee in the morning and taking advantage of the invigorating Caribbean breeze. While the penthouse units boast the most panoramic views of Half Moon Bay and come with a private terrace as well.
The open-floor layout of the living space, tasteful décor and extensive glass sliders facing the Caribbean create an atmosphere of home, airiness and peace. It’s easy to picture yourself discussing the plans for the day with your family, preparing cheesy quesadillas in the well-stocked kitchen or sharing a meal in the dining area with the Caribbean and Half Moon Bay as your backdrop.
Depending on the size of your party, you have the option of renting two and three bedroom condos. However, if you are planning a romantic trip with your beloved one, the guest bedroom of the 2-bedroom condos can be locked off. This means that you get to enjoy the best of Playa Blanca for less!
The highlight of the Playa Blanca condos is, without a doubt, the Master Bedroom. Featuring a comfortable king-size bed, ample storage space, a chic master bathroom and extensive louvered windows that fold back to welcome plenty of light and reveal magnificent ocean views. The guest bedroom also faces the sea and is furnished with one single and one double bed and a private bathroom.
If you have more than 5 people travelling with you, there is another bedroom that has a separate entrance and is an ideal choice for those who like the feeling of privacy and independence while staying with a bigger group of people. Located on the tranquil garden side of the Playa Blanca it comes with a private kitchenette, its own bathroom, an exterior sitting area and a double bed. (see Amenities section below to choose the condo that fits best for you).
It’s truly a bargain to stay at this beautiful beach condo in one of the most picturesque areas of Akumal and have all the commodities nearby. The famous La Buena Vida beach bar is just 2 minute walk away. While Central Akumal tourist services, Lol ha beach bar/restaurant and gorgeous Yal ku lagoon are literally 3 minutes’ drive away from Playa Blanca Condominiums.
So make a smart decision and book Playa Blanca Condominiums and save yourself a lot of vacation-planning time and money!

We were pleasantly surprised at how spacious this until was and also by the fact that it has a/c. Close to several restaurants and a small grocery across the street.

A very nice place to enjoy Mayan Riviera!
The view is magnificent! The neighborhood nice and calm. The location strategically placed between Tulum and Xcaret with easy access to beaches, Mayan ruins, water parks, cenotes and much more.

Playa Blanca made our family vacation. It had been a few years since we all traveled together as a family so as with any family there were some nerves as to how the trip would go. After dealing with car rental issues our arrival at Playa Blanca was refreshing - clean, spacious, beautifully appointed, on the beach, great views, fully equipped kitchen... i can go on. It looked like the pictures posted on the Loco Gringo site. One note is that the green room is a bit cave-like (not much light and space) and the separate entrance didn't really open.
Everyone had a great time and we really enjoyed taking advantage of the place. The beach is rocky here but you can snorkel or just relax on the lounge chairs. It is a bit of a walk to Akumal Beach but doable for sure. Close to Buena Vida for drinks.

This beautiful property is spacious, clean and quiet. The beach here is amazing. Wonderful restaurants are close. We enjoyed the ruins, cenotes and Xcaret. In Playa Del Carmen is an amazing restaurant called "The Alux" It is all underground in caverns. This was our 5th time to the area. We felt very safe here. We did not see any effects of the problems in some regions of Mexico.

My family and I stayed by Playa Blanca from August 9 till 23, 2010.
Perfect for a family: large rooms and spaces, wonderful location on the beach, all facilities and friendly staff.
One morning we wake up and saw some turtles bore on our beach!!!
Very pleasant vacation, relaxing and exciting.
A special thank to LocoGringo staff.

We're a return guest and plan to use this unit again on our next trip to Akumal in 2011. We have no interest in looking for anything else.

We've been coming to Akumal for several years and this year brought along our first baby and both sets of her grandparents! We couldn't have had a better time! Playa Blanca provided a new and very nice portable crib and there was plenty of room for everyone to move around. We loved having cocktail hour on our own walk out patio and watching the sunsets. We'll be booking our Playa Blanca/Akumal trip again soon for 2011~

We take our family to Akumal every year at Christmas. (Started with two of use this year it was 11). We had 3 units at PlayaBlanca. It is clean, safe and the views are great. Akumal is more "quaint" than any of the major resorts so don't to there if you are looking for a Cancun-like experience.

We stayed in the back studio, which was a good value and close to the beach, but had no view of the water. The linens were a bit worn, but fine for the price. Very impressed with how well the tiny kitchen was stocked w/ pots, pans knives etc. I was worried that there was no stove, but a portable electric stove top worked very well. The windows look out onto the main pathways, which meant no privacy unless the curtains are closed or you are in the bathroom. Akumal is pleasant town, lots of interesting things to do a short drive away. Definately rent a bike to easily get to the town or lagoon- otherwise you'd feel "stuck".

I'm a big Akumal fan and Playa Blanca is a great condo, relatively small complex, right on the beach, easy access, clean, nice size, etc.. I've stayed in 4 or 5 places in Akumal and this one is great. While we believe the artwork depicts ancient local religious - it was extremely creepy and we found it disturbing. There is a lot of art and it's all by the same artist. While I would stay at Playa Blanca again, I would not stay in unit 5.
Property needed repair to air conditioning, shower, and refrigerator freezer during our stay. Staff were cooperative, and eventually fixed the problems, but the deficiencies detracted from satisfaction with the unit.
Would have been 5 stars if not for the repair issues.

This is a great property - very comfortable and with amazing views from almost every spot (we didn't use the 2nd bedroom). It was cleaned every day, and had everything we needed to cook our own b'fast and lunches. There is nothing better than waking up in the morning to the sunrise (seen easily from the bed) and then taking coffee and a book to the beach. The only con was that we could hear our neighbors above us at night and there were many more of them than us. No big deal. We will be back!

My husband and I stayed at Playa Blanca in March 2013. We found the condo to be really clean, staff was friendly and in walking distance to everywhere we wanted to go in Akumal. The only negative we found was the inconsistent water temps in the shower. That being said, we would stay there again.

Third year in a row that we have stayed here! That says it all.

It is quiet and quaint here in Akumal if that s what a vacationer is looking for! Just the right amount of shopping and restaurant choices. A drive to Tulum or Playa Del Carmen offers the rest!

The entrance doors are a joke and provide virtually zero soundproofing.

Our stay for was seven wonderful nights. The condo was perfect for our family. We had two couples and one single, so the three bedrooms and three baths worked perfectly. The condo cant be beat. Huge living area with an extra large balcony. And the view was the best in Akumal.

We have stayed at a number of condos in N. Akumal. This condo was fine but lacked some of the nice details of others - including small things such as a cutting board for the kitchen and adequate # of hooks in the bathroom. Nevertheless, the location is superb, it was clean and completely acceptable overall. I would stay there again.

This place is great, Akumal is a wonderful community to call a home base as you vacation in Q. Roo. Having Wifi in the condo was a plus to keep in contact with family while on the trip. Highly recommended if you are looking for an affordable, clean, and spacious place to stay on the beach front!

We had a great time at playa blanca. People were helpful, it was very clean, couldn't ask to be closer to the beach. Had to rent a golf cart to conveniently get to and from town, but that in itself is a fun thing to do. It's right across the street from a corner store for misc. stuff. The only obstacle we had with the place is simply because we 2 kids under 4. It is far from kid proof (why should it be, of course. just a warning) so there is a lot for little fingers to get into. Also because its all tile concrete sound bounces everywhere (ie. crying, etc). Apart from these couple of hiccups, our time was super. They went out of their way to find us a crib, were friendly and helpful. To the average traveller, this is the ideal place!

The management folks were most kind and helpful when our hot water stopped (due to a roof tank malfunction) on Christmas day.

Had a wonderful vacation. Lovely area , so much to see and do Many restaurants choices in the area We do not do a lot of cooking on holidays but the condo had everything we would have needed if we did want to cook.Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Only concern with property was mattress's in second bedroom need to be replaced. Would definitely stay again .

Right on the water - when calm, snorkeling is quite good. Excellent staff on site - we had car engine troubles, and the ground staff person was superb, offering his cell phone and contacts to take care of the issue. Dining nearby is very good - 1/2 block to West Mexico cuisine and another block to speared lionfish meals! Wi-Fi OK.

As usual, Playa Blanca is a wonderful condo and the beach is fabulous! This is our second time staying in these condos and it has become a favorite ~ we'll be back soon we hope! :)

I have been vacationing in the Rivera Maya for about 12 years now. Akumal and Tulum are my favorite destinations. I truly enjoy my stay at the Playa Blanca condos. Stayed 4 nights in January. Very friendly staff. Half Moon Bay is a beautiful, quiet location. Excellent snorkeling, but be prepared for rocky entry. Rent a bike from La Joya condos and cruise up and down the beach road to Yalku lagoon and Akumal Bay or over to the pueblo. Lots of decent restaurants in Akumal. La Vita is a 3 minute walk from Playa Blanca. Always had great food here. Try the lionfish tacos down the street at Gyn'AK! Loved the magnificent view from #5 second floor at Playa Blanca! Beautiful art. Spacious. Needs new sheets and more wine glasses. Otherwise perfect. I'll be back. Go up to the roof top to see the sunsets and star gaze! Buen viaje!

The maintenance team worked so hard to keep the property clean and orderly, which made our stay even more pleasant than we had anticipated. The condo was very quiet, even on New Year's Eve, which was helpful with a one-year-old in tow. We enjoyed the location on Half Moon Bay, which is swimmable with water shoes, despite the rocks. Our only issue was that LocoGringo originally sent us to the wrong place to check in, but that situation was rectified within a few minutes.

We enjoyed our stay although the A/C in the main part of the condo did not work. The bedroom ones did. Employees did a good job
By: Marsha Lajoie
The property was even better in person than the photos. The location was wonderful. The booking process and check-in process was exceptional, all details were explained and handled correctly. Everything about this place is spot on!

We stayed 2 nights in Playa Blanca. We liked it very much. The appartment no 5 was perfect and clean . They clean it daily and bring purified water, The kitchen was ok only the gas stove very slow. We did a lot of snorkeling in Half Moon Bay (very quiet and beautiful) and also in Akumal Bay ( busy, many turtles) .
By: Carol Carlson
overall great! was disappointed when booking that the rates went up for the same time as before but no improvements to the unit. water pressure was low, and occasional sewage smell from the master bathroom was unpleasant. might get another unit next time.
By: Holly Palmieri
We enjoyed our stay at Playa Blanca. Beautiful beach location, although not really a swim beach. Our location was convenient to the restuarants in Akumal. We especially enjoyed La Buena Vida!
By: Timothy Corwin
Our stay was very pleasant. The condo was well maintained and the management was extremely helpful. I have been visiting the Akumal- Tulum corridor since the mid - 1990''s and have stayed in many different places. Half Moon Bay is not my favorite. I like to walk the beach, which is shorter here than other areas. The water in Half Moon is shallower, rougher and rockier than other places. On the plus side, the condo is close to Yal Ku Lagoon, which is great for snorkeling and is just a few minutes walk from La Buena Vida restaurant. Also, Akumal Bay, which is good for swimming and snorkeling is close by. Overall, I would rate this three out a possible five stars.
By: Brian Hazzard
We had a great stay in this unit centrally located in Half Moon Bay. An easy walk to the best beach bar in the Caribbean; LA BUENA VIDA. We also enjoyed TEQUILAVILE in Akumal Pueblo; well worth the walk into the village. A great vacation for all.
