One of our favorite places to shop is in Tulum, where Sally Peterson has put together one of the finest collections of Mexico folk art on the coast! Sally has been discovering new Mexican artists for 20 years. Her mission is to bring local Mexican artists to visitors in the Riviera Maya. Her store is big, her selection is hand-picked and extraordinary. Located on the highway in the Tulum just beside the ADO bus station and on the Tulum beach road across from Zamas, Mixik is a find. Local residents and visitors love this store and we have to say we are one of Sally’s number 1 fans.
If you are not keen on travelling to Tulum, there is a smaller folk art store at the arch in Akumal with yet another collection of interesting art for Mexican artists. Check them both out and learn more about the Mexican culture, hand crafts and communities through the eyes of artists. Neither of these art stores are typical souvenir shops, these are truly folk art stores for those looking for something true to the culture of Mexico!
