Wonderful grounds - fantastic layout- wonderful beds!!! Beautiful pool! We were a family of 9 people from throughout the US. We had an awesome mini reunion. My hubby and I have been in Akumal numerous times and always wanted to stay here and it was perfect! The outside area of the house was perfect and the bedrooms were beautiful too. Obidio took great care of us. We also had him and his wife cook for us one night!

We stayed in Casa del Sol as a group of 8 adults and a 1 year old child. This house was the base for our trip and the perfect location to unwind and relax. It made for an incredibly easy vacation! We greatly enjoyed the comfortable beds, ample indoor and outdoor lounge spaces, the beautiful decor and design of each room, the pool, private lagoon access, and 4 bikes.

The staff kept the house incredibly clean and we used their private chef services one night for a delicious meal.

We hope to return in the future and highly recommend to anyone looking for a gorgeous well located home in Akumul!

This is a great place for a larger group with plenty of space for everyone. The access to the lagoon is a bonus (go before 10 or after 4 when everyone else is gone). We used the Chef Services for most breakfasts and several dinners and were never disappointed. The location at the end of the road makes for a private and peaceful stay.

We stayed here for a family vacation in 12/2023 for 12 days. There was plenty to do for all ages- older family members sat around the beautiful outdoor areas of the property, teenagers were enjoying the nature, swimming, got certified diving, explored the town which was very safe. The property is very special- direct access to a beautiful calm lagoon for snorkeling, where you see many schools of fish, but my favorite part was seeing the beautiful birds in the lagoon around sunset. Yal ku lagoon is also at the end of Akumal away from all of the tourists that come in for Akumal Bay. There were day tours coming to the lagoon but in the morning and especially the afternoon we had it mostly to ourselves. Yal ku lagoon was my favorite part of Akumal, although we also did some diving (dos Ojos cave diving was very cool), went to Chichinitza, and also did the recommended Santa Cruz cenote tour which was awesome. The house chefs were also great- very worth the price- really sweet couple. You can also easily walk to nearby restaurants and around the town, and we also had golf carts. The house manager was available for anything we needed. Would highly recommend and we will definitely stay here again. Not a single complaint!

Casa del Sol is a fabulous property. The accommodations are spacious and comfortable and the management staff are friendly and helpful. It is one of only 3 properties that have private access to Yalku Lagoon, which is amazing because you feel like you have the lagoon to yourself during off hours. Snorkle gear is provided, though not needed, as you can watch a multitude of colorful tropical fish right from the rocks. I could have spent my entire vacation on this property, only venturing out on a bike (also provided), to dine at one of the many delicious restaurants nearby. I hope I have the opportunity to book this property again (and again, and again) in the future.

We had a great week at this villa with a party of four adults and four kids. Once you pass through the arch in the tourist part of Akumal, it feels like you're in a resort-- safe and comfortable and relaxed.

The villa was perfect for us-- spacious and very clean, without feeling opulent. The decor is particularly charming. The kitchens were adequately equipped for our cooking (we wished we had packed a citrus squeezer/juicer for making drinks). The cooking pans were all stainless steel, so unlike in other VRBOs we weren't confronted with scratched teflon. And the pantries included ample containers and lids for storing leftovers!

Service was excellent. Housekeeping doesn't come on Sundays; on weekdays they were unobtrusive and thorough. They didn't take tips left during the week, either left on beds or in the designated tip box so we left a large tip at checkout. The concierge service was also great-- David answered several questions before our departure about the provisions in the villa, and one of our adults texted with a manager during the trip, who dropped by to check on us when one of the kids fell and broke her foot and needed medical care.

We would definitely stay here again and recommend this property.

We recently spent a week at Casa del Sol. From the moment we arrived at the Cancun airport, everything was seamless. The property manager contacted me with the map to the house and with suggestions where to stop for groceries or the bank, if needed. The house is exactly as depicted. The house has a lot of character, with very artistic decor which makes it unique. The location is ideal, with access to the lagoon through your back yard. The outdoor space is amazing with plenty of sitting and eating areas plus the pool, the Palapa with loungers and hammocks (great spot for bird watching) and fountains. Snorkels are available and were very handy since the lagoon offers an impressive variety of fish. It does get very busy with groups travelling with a tour guide, so it's best to go early in the morning of after 5.
Every single space in the house was immaculate. The bedrooms and bathrooms were recently renovated and are beautiful. The beds are very comfortable and the linens of excellent quality. The caretakers, Obidio and Merily do a superb job and try their hardest to accommodate your every need. We tried some of Obidio's cooking for an extra fee and it was the best food we had during our stay. Highly recommended! We still did some cooking ourselves and the kitchens (both indoor and outdoor) are equipped with everything you might need. We have stayed at other vacation rentals, but Casa del Sol has been the best by far.

We had a great family vacation at Casa Del Sol. The house is well equipped to accommodate a large family and beautifully decorated. We loved having direct access to Yal kul lagoon. We enjoyed each morning with a cup of coffee and binoculars checking out all the birds and watching the sun rise. We would snorkel every morning and afternoon and was such a delight to swim with all the tropical fish in a protected lagoon. Our caretakers were great and they did an amazing job cooking for our family and I would highly suggest that. Also we had a golf carts and transportation services arranged through accommodations and that went great too

We recently returned from spending a great week at Casa del Sol. We made extensive use of the pool and outdoor kitchen facilities as well as the private access to snorkeling in the lagoon. We enjoyed the proximity to La Buena Vida, La Lunita and El Pescador.

We were 2 families of 4 with boys aged 3-8 and found the Casa Del Sol to be a perfect setup for our akumal vacation. While Casa Del sol is certainly an older home, we found the layout and the character of the property exceeded our expectations. The house is extremely well equipped in the kitchen space both upstairs and downstairs. Lots of spaces for socializing and hanging out throughout the property.
Neighborhood safe and property felt very safe for us with our 4 kids. Outdoor space and kitchen is a hosts dream and we found it very enjoyable cooking our all of our meals, having caretakers cook, or using as our general social/hangout area. Air conditioning worked fabulous in the bedrooms at night, and otherwise the breeze and windows provided plenty of airflow throughout all levels of the house during the day when not running AC. Pool was fantastic, waterfall was a fun/refreshing perk. Snorkeling off the back yard, while maybe not what it was 15 years ago, was so appreciated and enjoyed by kids and adults alike. As most are becoming familiar with, the Sargassum blooms can really affect the beach experience around riviera maya these days. Even with a huge bloom the week we visited, we could still snorkel most of yal ku without much disturbance. Great location to several restaurants walking, and short drive to Akumal Puebla. Fantastic meals at Tacos y Pastas, Taco Maya, and La Buena Vida. Already looking forward to our return. Thank you LocoGringo for the fantastic advice and help throughout our trip. The house is extremely well equipped in the kitchen space both upstairs and downstairs. Lots of spaces for socializing and hanging out throughout the property. Neighborhood safe and property felt very safe for us with our 4 kids. Outdoor space and kitchen is a hosts dream and we found it very enjoyable cooking our all of our meals, having caretakers cook, or using as our general social/hangout area. Air conditioning worked fabulous in the bedrooms at night, and otherwise the breeze and windows provided plenty of airflow throughout all levels of the house during the day when not running AC. Pool was fantastic, waterfall was a fun/refreshing perk. Snorkeling off the back yard, while maybe not what it was 15 years ago, was so appreciated and enjoyed by kids and adults alike. As most are becoming familiar with, the Sargassum blooms can really affect the beach experience around riviera maya these days. Even with a huge bloom the week we visited, we could still snorkel most of yal ku without much disturbance. Great location to several restaurants walking, and short drive to Akumal Puebla. Fantastic meals at Tacos y Pastas, Taco Maya, and La Buena Vida. Already looking forward to our return. Thank you LocoGringo for the fantastic advice and help throughout our trip. Our big family of 11 people had a great time at Casa del Sol over the thanksgiving week. The house is a little outdated but was clean and had no big issues. The location on the lagoon was great and we were able to snorkel in the mornings and evenings before it got crowded with the tours. There is one good restaurant walkable but it is a good distance into town so highly recommend a rental car or golf carts which were great fun and easily rented through the concierge service. The pool is not heated so during the winter it will probably be too cool for most adults but the kids still enjoyed it. For the size and location, I don't think you can get a better place in the area.

This is a very unique house and the location on Yal Ku Lagoon is perfect during the hot part of the summer. It is also nice to get away from seasonal sargassum outbreaks.

Our part of 11 was comfortable in this well-equipped house. The staff kept the place very clean and . Having an outdoor kitchen to serve the downstairs public areas is perfect. We spent time in the pool, lagoon, and under the palapa, when not visiting the beach at Half Moon Bay or Akumal Bay. We enjoyed morning walks to Turtle Bay for coffee and/or breakfast. La Lunita is a short walk for a nice dinner.

Overall, a wonderful place to enjoy with our friends and family.

Once owned by the Grateful Dead it is older and show is it age but is well maintained and cared for. It was exactly what we wanted as it is a very unique property. The outside kitchen/pool/patio area was where we spent the majority of the time and was large enough to accommodate our large group (13 strong). The caretakers (husband and wife) were fabulous and provided us delicious meals. Akumal in general was a great area and we enjoyed our stay.

This space is a profoundly beautiful and healing environment. We led a longterm retreat sharing meditation, dance and yoga here. This venue was ideal to host artists, healers and creatives from around the globe.

The geographic location is ideal tucked away in a peninsula on a legendary lagoon. Formally owned by thee Grateful Dead, you can feel that these walls have seen some wild things.

Swimming in these waters is healing, and when you put on goggles a whole new world is revealed. Tropical fish, underwater caves and manta rays oh my!!

The outdoor areas are top notch! The backyard is epic with a feeling of the essence of Mayan indigenous culture. There is a Jaguar head totem statue, waterfall, palapa, pool and wonderful covered patio space with an amazing atmosphere.

The house keepers Obideo and Merily are a husband and wife who live nearby, and maintain a pristine environment 6 days a week. They are so helpful, kind and sweet.

We were inspired, transformed and experienced time dissolve in this YOUnique vortex. Somedays felt like weeks as natures magick beckoned deep presence and expansive awareness. Wild animals would cross through the backyard daily with iguanas who called the border home, birds living in the trees, an array of mammals who would scoot through and even a hermit crab showed up one day!!

Casa del Sol's rooftop view is priceless. Time stands still for moment as you enter the eternal now.

I highly recommend this as a retreat for you, your family or group to escape the matrix and remember who you are and why you are here.

The "backyard" is a treat in itself. Beautifully landscaped. Serene. Great place to lounge and read a great book or two. And with such easy-access to the lagoon, snorkeling was another simple pleasure at Casa del Sol.

I've stayed here twice for a week, and everyone loved the house. The lagoon access, large patio, and outdoor kitchen are the best parts, and I would never want to stay somewhere without them. The tower bedroom is really neat, though you'd better be prepared to sweat in the summer and fall. The beds are kinda hard and the wireless internet signal doesn't extend much beyond the patio, but I guess you shouldn't be spending a lot of time sleeping or on the computer here... The manager, Roger, is very helpful, and the caretaker, Obideo, is indeed an excellent chef.

The only dissatisfaction we had with Casa del Sol was the inadequate a/c unit in the Tower Bedroom. The view from there is magnificant, but my mother-in-law had to sleep in there and was very uncomfortable every night. The reservation process did not go smoothly and I often did not get responses to my emails prior to the trip. But once we arrived, everything went perfectly. Roger met us at the property and checked in on us every day. Obideo and Merily were there every day to prepare many delicious meals and keep the house tidy. They were all absolutely WONDERFUL!

A very beautiful house. We enjoyed the convenience of snorkeling in the lagoon and the tranquility of Akumal. While the view from the tower was breathtaking, we found the tower bedroom to be too hot to sleep in. Maybe a new air conditioner would help. The well equipped kitchens made it easy to prepare meals, however having Obidio cook was a was a treat. He prepared a couple of excellent dinners for us. We enjoyed spending time in the lower living area that blended into the attractively landscaped yard. Overall, a great house for a family or large group.

We absolutely LOVED staying at Casa del Sol and are already talking about a return trip soon! The villa is so unique and wonderful. We really enjoyed Obideo and Merily and thought they did a fabulous job keeping the villa in order and preparing the most excellent food! One of the best features of Casa del Sol is it's proximity to the beautiful lagoon! Our kids were in heaven and loved being able to walk to the back of the propery and enjoy some of the best snorkeling we've ever seen! The public beach in Akumal is just a short drive up the road and was quite beautiful and relaxing. We had some wonderful meals, met some wonderful people and look forward to enjoying another vacation in the quaint little town of Akumal.

The location was unbeatable and the house has everything a family needs. The only thing was that the main room lacks air conditioning and got quite hot when cooking and dining there. Other than that, it was amazing. There was great security and the housekeepers were warm and friendly.
