Casa Christensen is specially designed to capture the constant ocean breeze with large, spacious living areas both indoors and outdoors.  Decorated in traditional Mexican tiles and implementing local architectural techniques and materials this property is peaceful, quiet, and a great place to entertain up to 8 guests.  The front terrace is shaded by a large palapa making this a great spot to enjoy time with your family and friends.  The large, circular living room features an impressive 30-foot ceiling and an open floor plan with direct views of the water. Eco-friendly "Air Conditioning"

Casa Christiansen was designed to let air flow through the house when all windows are open to naturally cool down the house. This avoids the use of artificial air conditioning which consume unnecessary resources or harmful chemicals that can harm the environment.

Sleep to the Sounds of the Sea

Three of the bedrooms are ground floor, each with its own private bathroom.  Of the bedrooms, 2 are adjoining, each with two double beds.  These two bedrooms also share a covered patio.  The 3rd bedroom has a queen bed and its own entry for those wanting a bit more privacy.

The 2nd floor is accessed by a curved stairwell that leads to a loft area with a study overlooking the living room.  Here you can also access the roof terrace...a great place to enjoy happy hour while taking in the sunset over the jungle.  The master bedroom is also on the 2nd floor and features a king bed with ensuite bathroom.  The master suite also has a large terrace that overlooks Yalku Lagoon and the Caribbean.

It was wonderful! Best location ever. 40 steps to great snorkeling. The house is close to good restaurants and small stores. We use golf carts to go to other restaurants and stores about 1 1/2 miles away. The patio has great view, always a nice breeze, great sunrise viewing. We usually had 8 people and the house was spacious, with plenty room for privacy. Kitchen was well equipped. Grounds well kept and secure. The best part is our caretakers; Octaviana & Pedro. Their daily clean up is very unintrusive. We call Octaviana “the Ninja” because things would miraculously be done. They are both very friendly and although English is not their language, between our/their limited Spanish/english, Google translate and sign language we communicated just fine. They have helped us to get excursions, massages, medical help, groceries, etc. Upon request (for a fee) Octaviana will make meals. Her food is delicious, plentiful and presented beautifully. My husband likes to use a walking stick and found one , one year in the jungle to use, the next year when we arrived there was a walking stick leaning against the wall. We have returned 7 times, Octaviana & Pedro made us feel safe and have become loved friends.

We had a wonderful time at Akumal. Casa Christensen was great as usual. Octaviana and Pedro are gems and keep the property in great condition. David, the Akumal Direct concierge, was a joy to work with. The only negative was the condition of the golf carts we rented. They were in rough condition and the back seat on one was not attached to the cart. That being said, we had a flat tire and Caesar was there in 15 minutes to repair it. Great customer service.

It was exactly as advertised and thoroughly enjoyable and comfortable. The caretakers, Pedro and Octaviana, were very helpful and cooked a delicious locally inspired dinner. Akumal Direct was very good and promp in responding to any questions we had. We were a party of 6 and spent a lot of time swimming and snorkeling in the lagoon, and took in some local sites, Coba and the Tulum Mayan ruins. We had a rental car so we were able to get around the area and shop. We luckily were not affected to the taxi strike that blocked the main highway back to Tulum and affected others returning to the airport. (apparantly they were protesting new competition from Uber) We hope to return.

We've been visiting Akumal at least once a year for the past 15 years. After having stayed in beachfront condos and villas in every bay from Half Moon to Soliman we finally decided to try Casa Christensen on Yal Ku lagoon. Upon arrival, our entire group agreed that the layout and distribution of the property immediately put everyone in a happy and blissful vacation mode. The views are amazing from practically every corner both indoors and outdoors. We particularly enjoyed the grand living room and the shaded waterfront deck as the main spots to hang out as a group. We were a bit skeptical about the lack of AC but were "blown away" by how well the architectural design of this house works. As soon as we arrived we opened all the windows and the ocean breeze immediately flows through the entire house. This might be one of my favorite features of Casa Christensen. The staff is also amazing, both the housekeepers and caretaker were always attentive to make sure we had everything we needed. Being on the lagoon was another highlight not just because of the view but because we were close enough to walk or ride a golf car to HMB and Akumal bay without having to rent a car.

Being on the lagoon was another highlight not just because of the view but because we were close enough to walk or ride a golf car to HMB and Akumal bay without having to rent a car.

We've been visiting Akumal at least once a year for the past 15 years. After having stayed in beachfront condos and villas in every bay from Half Moon to Soliman we finally decided to try Casa Christensen on Yal Ku lagoon. Upon arrival, our entire group agreed that the layout and distribution of the property immediately put everyone in a happy and blissful vacation mode. The views are amazing from practically every corner both indoors and outdoors. We particularly enjoyed the grand living room and the shaded waterfront deck as the main spots to hang out as a group. We were a bit skeptical about the lack of AC but were "blown away" by how well the architectural design of this house works. As soon as we arrived we opened all the windows and the ocean breeze immediately flows through the entire house. This might be one of my favorite features of Casa Christensen. The staff is also amazing, both the housekeepers and caretaker were always attentive to make sure we had everything we needed. We are a family of eight ages 4-74. We found the Casa Christensen very accommodating for all our needs. The children enjoyed exploring and they loved the library. The main deck outside was paradise listening and watching the waves crashing on the rocks. The 25 foot path down to the water was very convenient to go snorkeling. There is plenty of wonderful fish and coral to explore right there, no need to pay the fees to go elsewhere! We even saw a small shark!

Wow!! The moment you enter Casa Christensen you are mesmerised by the most incredible views of the lagoon. The Villa is beautiful and very spacious with natural air which is so much better than air con and offers views from every room you enter. Pedro & Octiviana looked after us daily and her cooking is an absolute must to try. The snorkelling being a few steps from the villa is amazing and we swam with turtles and the most gorgeous tropical fish, you can swim into other areas of the lagoon for free and I would recommend water shoes. The Akumal direct reservations team were brilliant and so very helpful both before and during our stay, we booked our airport transfers with them and the whole experience was made stress free. As a family of 5 we had the most incredible holiday and will definitely book to come and stay again.

The caretakers of the house are some of the best people I have ever met. They keep the house and the grounds clean and make great dinners. David Placencia was great help in arranging for Covid testing for us which went flawlessly. We noticed the fresh paint, repaired woodwork throughout the casa, new stove, security system and thatched roof. Fans in the bedrooms are a welcome addition. Needed items for replacement are sun lounge chairs. They are getting brittle and have broken slats. Thank you again Christensen’s. We have stayed at this casa close to 15 times ver the years. We couldn't have picked a better place for rest and relaxation. The home is quite and is all it says it is and more. It was clean and well furnished. The home is steps from the lagoon and you can snorkel for free in the area others are paying to snorkel in. The concierge, David, was phenomenal. He made so many wonderful arrangements and gave great advice! He was absolutely worth his weight in gold. A few bits of advice: Find a reputable location to change USD to pesos, bring beach towels, as all that are there are bath towels if you go to the beach, make sure to arrange to have Octaviana cook you some authentic Mexican dishes. Her meals are wonderful and extremely affordable. Make sure you eat at La Lunita too. This is also a meal you don't want to miss! I can't say enough good things about this home and the experience we had there. We will be back, repeatedly! Also, just for your knowledge note one bedroom and bathroom is accessed from outside the actual home and if you lock the house they must have a key to get in, this info is just for your knowledge.

Everything was amazing! the house was beautiful and perfectly set in the lagoon for sunrises, full moons and awesome snorkeling. Octaviana was wonderful and such a gracious hostess. She was spectacular!!! the only thing we needed was air conditioning in the bedrooms. that would have helped immensely to rest at night! thank you again for a wonderful stay and experience in Akumal. we absolutely loved the town of Akumal and will be back!
