Puerta Calakmul, translated as “door to Calakmul”, is an eco-hotel strategically positioned at the entrance to the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve. It is a great place to stay for those who want to explore the famous and mystic Calakmul ruins before the tourist crowds get there. It’s also a great place to unwind, unplug and sleep in your own comfortable “Cabin in the Jungle”.
Tucked away in the middle of a tropical forest, with no hotels for miles, yet close to the road leading to and from Palenque, Puerta Calakmul hotel is truly one of a kind.
Fifteen lovely bungalows are integrated perfectly into the natural beauty of the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve. Thatched roofs, canopied full-size beds, beautiful woodwork and large exterior terraces with inviting hammocks are just some of the design details that characterize Puerta Calakmul’s bungalows.
Each room has its own theme and offers modern-day conveniences like ceiling fans, private bathrooms with hot water, 24-hour electricity and security safe. But these are not the only ‘luxuries’ that guests at Puerta Calakmul can take advantage of.
A uniquely-shaped pool, which looks more like a cerulean-colored pond, and a charming restaurant will definitely make your stay at this eco hotel even more pleasant. The restaurant offers a large variety of dishes and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner (including box lunches for the Calakmul ruin trip). There is also a TV room upstairs and a Wi-Fi internet service in the restaurant and the reception.
Personal guides are available for tours to take you to the archaeological zones, nature paths in the biosphere or to the bat cave (5 miles away).
Only a few people know it, but there is more to the Campeche region and Calakmul area that can justify your trip here. Puerta Calakmul hotel is a strategic stopping point on the road to nearby Chiapas, the ruins of Palenque, Bonampak, Yaxchilan and natural wonders like Agua Azul and Misol Ha.
If you consider yourself more of an adventurer than a tourist; if your goal is to explore the side of Mexico, you’ll never get to experience in all-inclusive resorts, then Puetra Calakmul hotel is the “puerta” to adventure.
Go ahead and vote for exploring off the beaten paths and staying in unique accommodations, by choosing the captivating jungle ambiance of Puerta Calakmul hotel.

Our bungalow was very nice. Spacious and very clean. The bed was comfortable, (the chairs were a little uncomfortable). We could hear the howler monkeys in the early morning. It was a great experience. We selected the location for its close proximity to the Calakmul ruins. We spent the day there and it was wonderful!

POOR DIRECTIONS-- THE HOTEL IS BEFORE THE BIOSPHERE GATE ,NOT AFTER THE GATE. IF YOU ARE GOING THERE TO SEE THE CALAKMUL RUINS MAKE SURE YOU GET A BOX LUNCH AT THE HOTEL AS THERE IS NO SUPPORT AT THE RUINS.ALSO IF YOU WANT A GUIDE ,GO TO THE MEUSEUM FIRST AND ASK FOR ONE.
staff very friendly,good food,nice presented,room quite big,quirky bathroom.
suggestion: a communal room to chat to other guests or read, etc.
I found the restaurant was okay for dining, but not to congregate, that was the only thing I was missing

although your brochure suggests we will need a driver to the calakmul site you failed to tell us we needed to book a driver dormitory or that our bus would not be allowed to drive directly to the site but that we would have to wait for commercial bus approved by local authorities toothpicks in steaks that got lodged in someone's throat in our party thankfully caused no long term damage but could have beenvery serious lunch were great first day, next day no fruit but no reduction in price everyday many things missing from the menue - made choosing boring check in process is a bit awkward as neither the reception person seemed happy to see us
