If you agree with the concept that “Less is More”, then you are definitely going to fall in love with Casa Gauguin.
Its unique, loft-like architecture, floor-to-ceiling glass windows and chic minimalist décor make it one of the most highly-sought after vacation properties in Akumal.
However, the great thing about the Caribbean and Yal Ku Lagoon is that you don’t have to be a famous architect or a movie star to spend your vacation in style.
Starting tomorrow you can experience the awe-inspiring feeling of living in a house, where the confinements of walls disappear and the spectacular, untouched beauty of the Caribbean becomes part of your living space.
It won’t matter whether you are reading a book in the living room, sharing a meal in the contemporary dining area, preparing drinks in your gourmet kitchen or admiring the first rays of the sunrise from your bedroom – at Casa Gauguin you will always have that striking feeling of being indoors and outdoors at the same time.
This magnificent 6,300 square foot beachfront villa, overlooking Yal Ku Lagoon hosts 5 bedrooms. All bedrooms come with en-suite bathrooms, spacious closets and incredible ocean or jungle views.
The downstairs bedroom faces the garden and comes with a queen-size bed and a small work station. The other bedroom suites are furnished with queen-size beds and come with private balconies. The master bedroom – the jewel of the house – boasts a sophisticated design, a king-size bed and a spacious private terrace overlooking the Yal Ku Lagoon.
The entertainment room, located on the upper level of the villa, is equipped with a full entertainment system (including a big screen flat TV and home theater sound system).
This is where the beautiful infinity edge pool and Jacuzzi are located.
Since the villa is built on the rocky part of the shore, you have a phenomenal elevated view and 100% privacy, as there will be virtually no one walking along the beach. You will also not miss out on snorkeling with tropical fish, canoeing and swimming in the crystalline sea waters, because all guests of Casa Gauguin have direct access to the mesmerizing Yal Ku Lagoon. At the same time, the white sand beach of the Half Moon bay is just short walk away from Casa Gauguin.
So there is literally nothing preventing you from making this year’s vacation the best one ever!
Because when you calculate how much it costs per person per day to stay in this exquisite Minimalist Villa, you will kick yourself for spending so many vacations in crowded resorts and impersonal hotel rooms!
5 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms. Maximum 14 people.
We represent so many small, quaint facilities, privately-owned homes and we coordinate availability with local people. Add Casa Gauguin to your inquiry, we will get back with you, confirm availability and of course, answer any question you might have!

Let's start off by saying that and were some of the most helpful and lovely people people we met on this trip. The home was in beautiful condition in terms of cleanliness and up keep. Every morning the dishes were done, sheets changed and the entire house was cleaned. They were also very helpful with suggestions and directions. The location of the villa is perfect, it was off the main road and was extremely quiet. Waking up to the sunrise over the lagoon is a view that is tough to beat. Wearing water shoes, the walk to the lagoon is easy and entertaining while watching the iguanas on the rocks. In the lagoon we saw turtles, rays and numerous fish. The home was stocked with purified water, an immense welcome fruit basket with numerous other goodies. The pool was in great shape and the grounds were perfectly manicured. and made for a perfect week in a perfect villa. The villa and the people are the reason vacations in Mexico are perfect!

For background, this our seventh trip to Akumal. The house is beautiful and the huge windows make for an impressive view upon entering. The layout is nice, but the fifth bedroom downstairs does not have a full bath, which makes it a difficult room to use. The view of the ocean is fantastic, but it is a bit far from the main part of Akumal and even with a few golf carts, it still took 15 minutes to get to the main beach, Lol Ha or the Chomak. There was no DVD player, but fortunately Garry from Locogringo helped us out. But for Garry and Kay at Locogringo, our trip would have been much less enjoyable.

The house was awesome. However, I didn't feel like the caretakers were that good.

The house and the view from the house are stunning!!! The house was spotless. The kitchen was well equipped. It was great to have access to the lagoon from the house and we used it every day. A couple of small things made it slightly less than a total five star experience. First the pool was very small--which you could not tell from the photos. Second the absence of a shower in the downstairs bedroom was a problem. We had 13 people who all wanted showers at about the same time and the downstairs folks had to wait. We also ran out of hot water pretty much every day. Third, an outdoor shower would have been very nice, coming back from the lagoon. I saw that most of the houses on the lagoon had those. Fourth, the oven, one of the fridges and the dishwasher did not really work well. Dishes did not get clear, ice cream melted and it took us two hours to roast potatoes. A second water dispenser upstairs would have been great. The location is about a mile from the center of town and the good beach but there are a few good restaurants near the house and being on the lagoon is awesome. Overall a good experience that could be made great with a few improvements.

We had an amazing time. the house lived up to the description and photos and the location was perfect. Francisco and Gladis took care of us really well. The only slight downside was that all of the beds apart from the master were very hard and our fellow travellers all had trouble sleeping. It would aso be good to have a mirror in the ground floor half bath and or bedroom.

We stayed at Casa Gauguin and loved every moment. Francisco and his wife were not just care takers of this beautiful home but of us as well. We could not have asked for a better place to stay during our time in Akumal. The only reason I havev a 4 star next to the general condition as there seemed to be some plumbing issues on one side of the house, there was no hot water in the master suite shower and it smelled a bit like sewage in the downstairs bedroom. These were small, very small in comparison to how much we enjoyed it here and we are already trying to find dates to come back!
