If you are looking for something more exciting than just a great vacation in a typical modern villa, then Casa Iguana may be just the right vacation home for you.
Built on a half-acre lot between Akumal and Half Moon Bay, Casa Iguana is composed of two side-by-side houses: a main two-level villa and a one-level casita. Each of the houses hosts 2 air conditioned bedrooms with 2 en-site bathrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen and an original circular living room with a modern entertainment system.
People who see Casa Iguana for the first time, say it reminds them of a private resort. Indeed, the layout of the house, its unique architecture and amazing outdoor living spaces make it easy to both enjoy the privacy and tranquility of your own home and to spend a great time together.
Despite its Mayan-like wood-finished exterior, the interiors of both houses, with their marble and hardwood floors, granite countertops and high-speed internet provide all the modern-day comforts that make a vacation even more enjoyable.
If you get the first pick at choosing your room the best bet would be the master bedroom, located on the second floor of the villa and boasting an elevated view of the Caribbean. While kids can stay in their own bedroom located on the first floor and furnished with 2 twin beds.
Bigger groups will be more comfortable in one of the Casita bedrooms, furnished with two double beds and one double and one twin bed.
The indoor spaces of Casa Iguana are complemented by the stunning outdoors, an outdoor living and dining area as well as an impressive oceanfront swimming pool. The thatched-roofed living and dining area in the exterior of the casita is an ideal spot to enjoy meals during a cookout party. You can also make use of another 12-seater outdoor dining area for more formal meals.
And to make sure that you stay in shape during your vacation, Casa Iguana offers its guests a private white sand beach area designed for friendly volleyball and soccer matches.
There is even a little private Gazebo dedicated to relaxation and siesta-time. Just picture the thatched-roof palapa, soft ocean breeze, the inviting hammocks and turquoise waters of the Caribbean sparkling in the background… A real tropical paradise.
And the best part is that since Casa Iguana is built on a rocky section of the shore, there is virtually no one walking by or disturbing your peace and quiet (well, maybe except for your friends’ laughter or kids splashing in the pool). But this is part of having a great time and staying at an authentic Mayan Villa!

the cook and maid were wonderfully helpful. Food was excellent.
Overall, a great family vacation.
Only negative: owners recommended Easyway car rental which was very inefficient: took 3 hours to get the 2 rentals (no kids' seats as reserved, no 5th seatbelt in one car so had to switch to another at higher price, etc.).
All else went smoothly.

We have stayed at this property twice. It is beginning to show age. The staff is the best. The grounds are beautiful but the houses and the equipment (kitchen, etc.) needs to be updated. I understand it is hard to keep things perfect when you have so many different people renting. Having the two houses is a great plus for multiple families or like us, one for adults and the other for teenagers. We did enjoy the privacy of the location, cooking out on the grill by the pool, relaxing under the palapa by the water. Great access to the beach and all the activities plus restaurants.

Wonderful Place, my first visit to Mexico. There was seven of us all Family. The staff were very professional yet friendly. The location was ideal for restaurants and going to the beach. We had two wonderful meals served to us at Casa Iguana that were great. Hope to go back sometime.

Casa Iguana was a perfect set-up for our group of 9. The two kitchens functioned well yet we found the kitchen in the smaller house to be more conducive to our group. We had a couple wonderful meals prepared by the groundskeeper Daniel.
The beds were very hard, FYI. The Pillows are minimal, FYI.
Overall I really liked Casa Iguana. I'm looking forward to staying there again.

Casa Iguana is a great place to be in Akumel !!! The layout is perfect for groups with amazing outdoor space !!! Which is perfect when getting away from the cold North East. I can't say enough about the staff. Daniel is an amazing cook and more than helpful with any needs you may have. Alicia took care of our every need and kept the place spotless. Hector kept a great eye on the place and we were ecstatic to have them all join us for an outdoor dinner !!!

We have three children from 21 to 30. My husband and I enjoyed the small palapa roofed house and our children stayed the big house. What a treat to wake up open in the morning open the wooden iguana carved doors and enjoy my morning coffee. The courtyard is enchanting and the hammocks by the ocean so peaceful. Special thanks to Daniel and his wife for the homemade tortillas and to Alicia with her sweet smile and hard work.

Casa Iguana was perfect for us. We like to gather in outdoor spaces, and a little rain doesn't bother us. That's good because the comfort of the CI depends on being outside; there's no really good space for a large gathering inside. Danny and Alicia were wonderful. Clean towels, delicious food, accommodating. Good beds, kitchens, bathrooms. Great pool, views of the sea, sunbathing iguanas, a walk to great restaurants and to snorkeling with the turtles. Night security. We would go back in a minute. Love Akumal's tiny community.

Had a great time at Casa Iguana! The houses were great and met our needs perfectly. Some things could use some updates but overall it was great. There were 4 couples so it worked out great to have 2 kitchens. We also enjoyed that each couple had their own bathroom. We had an issue with the air conditioner in one bedroom and it was fixed right away. What really made our stay was Daniel and Alicia. They were absolutely wonderful. I also spoke with Roger on the phone and he was very helpful as well. I was out when he stopped by but the other couples that did meet with him said he was very helpful and nice. It was a lot of fun getting to know Daniel and he is an awesome cook! We had chicken fajitas, Pollo Maya and Lime Soup. His guacamole was amazing, the best we ate down there. Everyone (even our picky eaters) enjoyed all his dishes. Would definitely stay here again if we were vacationing with several couples or a large family. We were worried we would need to rent bikes or a golf cart but we were within walking distance in both directions to a lot of shops and restaurants and used the beach at Akumal Bay.

We had a wonderful visit at Casa Iguana in Akumal. We loved that it was a short walk from the town center and the dive shop as well as La Buena Vida. The accommodations were very comfortable and we all felt so special when we arrived to freshly made guacamole, salsa, chips and a refrigerator full of Dos XXxs and soda. Such a nice thoughtful touch! No swimming from the beach here but the view is beautiful and climbing around on the rocks is fun too. We had a broken AC on night, very humid but they got it fixed in less than 24 hours. Such FUn!

My new wife and I of 1 month, treated our 5 adult kids, 2 of their girlfriends, a grand daughter and my mother to a Mexican vacation. The stay at Casa Iguana exceeded all of our aspirations!! The home was beautiful , the grounds were breathtaking and all of the staff was very sweet and helpful. All of the restaurant 's close by were great, We really liked the Turtle Bay Cafe and went there every night for their ice cream weather we ate dinner there or not. At the main beach, we were able to swim and see turtles and sea rays! Easy access to the highways for our excursion 's. Could have not been happier!!!

This property was the perfect set up for the two families in our group. We could enjoy being together at the pool, eating meals or playing volleyball but had personal space for each family.
