Quietly nestled in the northern part of the Akumal this sand-colored establishment blends in perfectly with the tropical surrounding of the Caribbean.
Framed by palapa-style umbrellas and slender palms, La Joya Condominiums are literally located just a few steps away from the azure waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
La Joya’s prime location, light, airy décor and its affordability makes it an ideal option for a romantic getaway, a non-stop beach partying with friends, or fun family moments.
The spacious and uniquely structured open-room floor plans of the condo units offer stunning views of Half Moon Bay beach and the clear waters of the Mayan Riviera. It is like having your own immense aquarium filled with tropical fish and sea turtles.
You can choose any of La Joya’s seven condos as they all come with “features” many guests are looking for when planning their vacation in Mexico. Some of these features include a fully-equipped kitchen, airy dining and living area, very comfortable beds, stylish cane furniture, and private ocean side patio (lower level units) or a spacious terrace (upper level condos). There is also a daily maid service, to make sure that your vacation apartment is spotless, cool and breeze, at any time of day and night.
And if you have a craving for fresh guacamole, Crispy Nachos or real Mexican ‘cervezas’, there are two convenience stores and two great restaurants – La Buena Vida and La Lunita - 5 minutes away from your condo.
Unforgettable Mexican vacation does NOT have to cost much! And La Joya is a perfect example that proves this statement. You can enjoy the comfort and privacy of your own apartment, while having the maid service benefits of a hotel.

La Joya is the best resort in the area for the quiet and serene beach experience. The staff is top-notch and friendly. For those with young children, the beach in the village is better than Half Moon Bay. Noisy neighbors who insisted on having loud card games with alcoholic refreshments past midnight was the only drawback.

Two couples occupied units 2 and 3 of La Joya...basically one condo with only a patio in common. Beach level, and one of the few places I've seen that had full handicap access, not that we required that feature. As with most condos, it could have used some sharper knives, but otherwise perfectly met our needs and expectations. And I do like those Brewmaster coffee pots!

I loved getting the daily news delivered to the door. The whole placed got a complete clean daily. Drinking water was delivered as needed. The view from the balcony on the 2nd floor is breathtaking. the gentle lapping of the waves, the pelicans that swooped by to fish, the breeze from the ocean blew through the condo to give us that perfect temperature. It's close to good restaurants and entertainment and the beach is right outside your door. we have been 4 times and we will go again.

We stayed at La Joya 2 yrs ago and loved it so much that we brought the kids back with us and some friends. La Joya was the best choice the second time too. We could spend the day playing on the beach and snorkeling and then walk into town for a wonderful meal in Akumal. The staff at La Joya are very hospitable and friendly and always a smile when we returned "home". They did not mind when the kiddos found coconuts and helped open them for them! And even helped when we set up a couple of excursions for our group. The condos are clean and well stocked, just a quick trip to Soriana's on the way from PDC and we were set! It felt like home away from home...we will be back!

We rented (4) condos at La Joya for a week at various times. The power issue was not La Joya's fault but one condo had repeated AC problems.
Staff was helpful and accommodations were clean.

Wonderful place to stay. Extremely helpful staff, fantastic location. Loved the view from the balcony. We were slightly concerned about any sounds from neighboring units, but up on the top floor in the slower season, we didn't hear a peep from anyone else.
Some minor things we would have liked was a change of bath towels (after a few days in the humidity not so nice smell), more secure window screens (small holes for mosquitos to come in) and more modern furnishings/linens.
We elected not to rent a car and the staff was kind enough to rent us a bike so we could get into town faster / instead of getting a cab ride (which BTW was about 60 pesos). Be warned that the road into town is uneven with some ginormous potholes. And the bikes we got were old and rusty, but that was part of the charm.
One thing I would recommend doing (besides snorkeling / tulum) is do the nighttime turtle walk that the akumal ecology center has. We were extremely blessed not only to see a mama loggerhead and a mama green turtle make their nests, but we even saw the third batch of the year of baby loggerheads crawl out to the ocean!

A place we will return to!
We take our headlamps with us no matter where in the world we go cause you never know what the reading lights will be like. We did use them a couple nights for reading in the living room when we weren't out enjoying some of the really good nearby restaurants or hanging out watching the stars.

Good location to things if you like to walk. Less busy than other areas that have larger resort complexs with more ammenities. Depending on what you want in your vacation. Th only thing that would add would be to have kayaks on site for guests of LaJoya to use. Staff were helpful and accomadating. We will definately go back!

We had the top floor single. The place was lovely. The bedroom was up a few steps from the kitchen and that made for a beautiful view of the water right through the room. Opening the windows and porch door made for great sleeping to the waves crashing. Actually, since the property next door is somewhat set-back, the side window in the bathroom gets great ocean sounds coming in. The town rolls up the rug around 9:30 so it was really peaceful. La Joya was right on the water and it was a nice walk down to Akumal.

Great for a family vacation. A little disappointed that we could not swim in front of the condo but we still played in the waves with shoes on. Good location between the main beech and the laggon.

we have stayed here for the last 5-6 years. The property is well maintained and feels comfortable for us. We were disappointed to see the lot to the north built up with a HUGE home. We have thought about looking for a new Akumal home base.

This was our third time staying at La Joya. We love the beautiful views of the water and the wonderful snorkeling just off the beach. If you dive, there's great reef and cenote diving through the Akumal dive shops, or it's easy to spend a day on Cozumel. Akumal is also close to several sites of Mayan ruins, which are worth seeing.
It's only a 15 minute walk or 5-minute drive from the condo into Akumal, but there are also bodegas and restaurants very close to the condo. The kitchenette was well appointed for making coffee and simple meals at home.

This is a beautiful location and the property is well kept. The beach is great although it has a fairly steep slope. The snorkeling is also good once you get past the rocky bottom. The attractions near by are wonderful as are the places to eat.

I really enjoyed staying here. It had the perfect mix of rustic caribbean and modern flair. The location was perfect...far enough from town (Lol Ha, etc.) but close to La Buena Vida, La Lunita, and a bunch of other small restaurants and boutiques. If you like the boutique-style, the La Joya is for you. The La Joya really is a jewel!

I loved everything and will go there again. The unit I rented was on the 3rd floor and did not have a TV. The kids would like a TV. There were books to read and I had the beach and Turtles to keep me busy. We had a car,but still rented a golf cart for the day. The staff were great! The locals are great! Beds were comfey. All the appliances were in great shape.

When we are arrived we could not beleive the views! The condo is beautiful and well appointed and newly refurbished. It's decorated authenticaly in Mayan/Mexican decor. The bathrooms are large and beautifully tiled -the problem is you have NO water pressure and only get drops from these large shower heads! The daily maid service and freindly front desk was very helpful.Great location to walk to restaraunts and town and also close to Yal Ku lagoon. Don't miss it for some of thee best snorkeling. Rent a bike to get around it's so much fun! Don't miss swiiming with the sea turtles in Akumul Bay and enjoy lunch at Lol Hol. We enjoyed great food at La Lunita (very close to unit) the fun swing bar at La Bueana Vita and also best seafood at Pescatores near the arch in town. It's best to either have food delivered or shop outside of town. You cannot get much food or meats at local "corner" stores. We LOVED the place!

Our stay at La Joya was hands down the best beach vacation I've ever been on. The staff kept everything so clean and beautiful that all we had to do was walk out of our unit onto the beach and enjoy. The atmosphere was very laid-back. It really felt like paradise. I would definitely return to La Joya, and I'd highly recommend it.

I was very pleased with this rental; the kitchen was stocked better than expected, so leave your knife and cutting board at home. Bring a hair dryer, ladies. There was always plenty of hot water. Step out of your sliders in Unit #1 to the pool and sand. Bring water shoes; the coral and rocks are rough, but the water is so warm. Snorkeling can be tricky as so much of the reef is right up to the top of the water, which is shallow in the bay. Daily housekeeping was an unexpected pleasure, the condo cleaned spotless. The place is a bit worn, and the workmanship not top notch, but this is Mexico afterall, and it is a rental unit. It was a great deal for the price ! I would definitely return.

Multiple areas offer incredible snorkeling, including directly in front of our condo on Half Moon Bay. The pool offers more relaxation options and entertainment. We were able to witness turtles nesting right in front of our condo. 5 star vacation!

The condo at La Joya was in a perfect location on a perfect beach. The staff was friendly and helpful, although not much was required from them as everything worked and was great from start to finish. Restaurants were excellent and close by. Recommend highly to anyone visiting Akumal.

We really enjoyed our trip to Akumal and our stay at La Joya. The staff keeps the grounds immaculate. Our condo was very nicely maintained. The pool and the beach were amazing. Having water shoes for the beach made all the difference as the entrance is rocky. There are plenty of places to eat and shop within walking distance, and we found it helpful to have a car to go in town and explore the surrounding areas.

everything was great but the air conditioner was VERY Noisy. Would also be an improvement if there was Satellite TV.

Our vacation at La Joya was wonderful, as it always is. We have stayed here 3 times and love. The staff is the best (Jose, Merci, and Juan). The pool is super refreshing, and the reef is as beautiful as ever.

This is such a beautiful place to stay! We had two delightful weeks here and would do it again. The beach is gorgeous and great for walking, finding sea glass along the way. The area is quiet and there are few people on the beach at any one time. It is a bit tough to get in and out of the water due to coral and rocks, but worth the effort. The pool is lovely. The daily maid service is great!! I would be willing to have my name attached to this review but I am from Salt Spring Island BC Canada, not Claymont, DE

This is our 2nd stay at LaJoya #4. Our mornings are important to us. We first like to run the come back and stretch next to the pool, then come inside and eat and get online for a couple of hours before heading out to snorkel somewhere. Therefore wifi is very important to us as are good kitchen facilities. The unit had both of these. Our maid did a great job in keeping the unit clean and providing us with clean towels. The only 2 things that could be improved are being able to put toilet paper in the toilet and having fresh water out of the pipes. but it's Mexico, we get it.
By: Robert Bond
We had a great stay at La Joya, but felt the condo lacked some basics, such as no reading lamps, and need more bowls & small glasses in kitchen. A TV & stereo would have been nice, and cushions on deck chairs. Also, at times there were not enough beach chairs to go around.
By: David Gabriel
We had an excellent time in Half Moon Bay, La Joya condo. Very clean, very attentive staff and very safe. Very quiet beach with few beach walkers. Water shoes are necessary for swimming because it is a corral bay. Great snorkeling and beach relaxing. We had a daily Turtle swimming in front of condo all day long (4/26-5/3). Highly recommend for quiet, island like relaxing vacation. Maids and property staff are very nice and helpful with bags and keep the property looking great!!! Will visit again and recommend to a friend. Beach not good for beach running because the Bay is short. Can only run from one end to the other in 5 minutes then you had to turn around. Important to us because we were training for a half marathon five days after our return.

Wonderful relaxing stay. Loved to hear the ocean. Really enjoyed the pool. Witnessed a Green Sea turtle laying her eggs one night and watched a nest of eggs hatch the next night. A very special experience. First visit to Akumal in July and really loved it! No crowds.

This was the best vacation I've ever had. The location was great. the room and view were amazing. Everything about the stay at La Joya was great except the A/C didn't work on our last night and there was nobody available to do anything about it so we had to sleep on the balcony.

The property was lovely and the manager Eus was so very helpful. I was dealing was some business matters at home and he was a great help. He has been very helpful with lots of things that have come up over the years. You are very lucky to have such a devoted employee. The only way things wouod have been better is if the sun would have come out one time while I was there. ohwell, maybe next time

My husband and I were looking for a sun, sand and restful vacation away from the usual over-crowded holiday locations. The spot proved to be exactly what we were looking for: quiet, well run, beautiful beaches and walking distance to several places to eat. The snorkeling was fabulous, the people were friendly and the overall experience was one I look forward to again.

Great view of Half Moon Bay. Perfect location for quiet, relaxing getaway (20th anniversary, parents of 7 children). Easy to get to from Cancun. Maid service was subtle; facility was maintained and clean. Would definitely recommend. Hope to return someday soon! Buy groceries in Playa on your way down. Snorkeling at Xel-Ha was awesome. Saw dolphins on ferry ride to Cozumel. La Buena Vida was our favorite restaurant - great food, friendly service, fair prices, fun atmosphere. Their mixed ceviche is a must! My only complaint is that La Joya shouldn't charge for use of bikes and snorkeling equipment. Both were very old and used. Left me feeling nickeled and dimed.

Location, location, location, this place REALLY blew every other vacation rental away in terms of location. The town of Akumal is perfect for folks looking to vacation away from other tourists and crowds (my fiance and I spent a day in nearby Playa del Carmen as well as Tulum, and prefered Akumal to both of those tourist heavy, commercial locations) and La Joya is conveniently placed right in the middle of the town, so you can experience the secluded Yal Ku Lagoon snorkeling and delicious food at the smaller, less busy restaurants on that end. Or venture the other direction toward Akumal Beach and the little shops and more busteling part of the town. Or you can just veg out on the stunning and faily private beach out back of the property of Half Moon Bay! Snorkeling in all three locations was wonderful, and the walk on the water between all three is truly breathtaking (just don't forget to bring your water shoes for the rocky parts!). We tried every restaurant in town, and favorties included La Lunita which is just a few doors down from La Joya, as well as the Turtle Bay Bakery and Cafe near the arch for a more affordable alternative. In terms of the property, we stayed in the smallest room, Studio #3, and it was perfect for us. The kitchenette was small but had everything we needed, and the extended living area of the deck made for a great place for breakfast and lunch each day with a view worth a million bucks. Property management was always onsite to answer an questions we had, and the cleaning crew came through every day and replaced towels and sheets when necessary. The pool was lovely, clean and refreshing, and we were usually the only ones in it. And there were always plenty of available beach chairs poolside as well as on the beach under the palapas. Overall, this was the BEST vacation we have every taken. We've only been home for a few days, and we're already plotting our next visit to Akumal, Half Moon Bay, and the La Joya properties!!

The facilities were very nice and the staff even nicer. Very helpful and friendly as well as responsive to our needs and requests.

We loved our second visit to La Hoya. We love the quiet location, on the beach, and a nice mile walk into town. We were happy to see some of the same workers at La Hoya, Juan in the office and one of the Maids, Ester, who we met coming in to work in other condos.

We just loved LaJoya! Stayed one week with our 2 kids (8 & 10) Unit #5 was BEAUTIFUL, the staff was so friendly, place was spotless. Condo was well stocked, nice dishes, didn't miss a thing. Felt very welcomed and safe. Turtle nests right next to the condo. You need a rental car here. The only thing about the location I didn't love was the water in HMB isn't easily accessible, even with nice beach in front of LaJoya. Chunks of coral roll in the surf. Just something to be aware of. We snorkled in front of the hotel and swam in the pool. Would definately go back. We don't usually use a travel agent, but were amazed at our experience with Loco Gringo

The condo was in a great location and loved the decor. There were a few bumps in the road with no hot water and the TV's, but the staff was quick to get everything fixed in a timely manner. They were so nice and it was a pleasure to have them around. Overall, the property is kept well and the management does a good job to make your stay a great one.

A beautiful spot right on the beach, gorgeous views from sun up to sun down. The water is wonderful for snorkelling. The bottom right in front of the condo is stony but once you are afloat that doesn't matter! Well equipped and colourful inside. A previous reviewer mentioned having kayaks to use for guests: that would be fun for the next time we are there!
By: Tawnia Heilman
We had a wonderful 8 days at LaJoya. Have stayed in this area before but first time at this condo. We loved everything about it. They are looking for more beach chairs but that was our only complaint. Great snorkel area and just a nice quite time to refresh and recharge.

I hate to say too many good things about La Joya because I am afraid it will become so popular that we won't get the dates that we want. It is the BEST condo if you like listening to the waves, watching the sunset ...

Amazing, spotless large 2 bedroom 3rd floor condo! Lots of hot water for showers/great pressure. Maids were great! TV only played DVD . Not blue ray, so we watched Mamma Mia about 6 times! Lol. Not impressed that other condo renters from across the road were able to use the pool/ loungers. We paid $$$$ for this oceanfront condo, they didn't . Not fair! 1 day no loungers for La Joya guests! $100 US cash deposit needed to use safe. Never mentioned in booking by LG. AC did not go lower than 75, but was cool enough to sleep at night. Rooftop deck was great for cocktail hour watching the sunset over the jungle with La Joya guests! Cement patio blocks in front of condo made for easy entry into the ocean for snorkelling. Turtles and rays were frequent visitors! Pool was bigger than expected and deep! Bring your floatie! We would definitely return!

Our stay at La Joya Condominiums exceeded our expectations. Location, condos, snorkeling, restaurants, shops all nearby. Great view. Loved Akumal.
By: Laurie De La Cruz
Our Akumal experience was fabulous. Half Moon Bay is secluded, quiet, and peaceful. La Joya was the icing on the cake! The view from our condo is indescribable. We arrived after dark so waking up to the sunrise over the ocean was truly breathtaking. Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. Condo was clean, roomy, and very comfortable. There are reef rocks about 3 feet in the water from the beach so getting in the water barefoot was difficult and this is not a place where you can walk on the beach for miles. Regardless, we would definitely stay here again! Waves are calm so we snorkeled in Half Moon Bay and Yal-ku. Rented a car in Cancun; highway to Akumal is safe and in good condition. Took day trips to Cancun/Isla Mujeres (too big city for us; totally preferred Akumal), Tulum ruins, and Xel-Ha. Other days hung around Akumal rejuvenating. Delicious food for all the family (2 vegans, 1 vegetarian, 1 eats everything). Enjoyed a couple of meals at the condo...especially that housekeeping did the dishes! A vacation we always remember!!!

LaJoya condos were terrific. We had all 3 on the ground floor. It?s near a couple of very nice restaurants and Half Moon Bay is a quiet spot in a bustling area at Christmas time. A good time was had by all.
Condo #2 was one of three we rented together for a week between Christmas & New Years. We had the whole bottom floor, for a great 50th Anniversary celebration with our family. The condo was spacious, always well-maintained, and such a great location, right down the beach from Vista Del Mar, hotel & yummy restaurant. Quiet beach, near Tulum, not too far from the airport. Juan was a terrific help with dinner reservations and knoelrdge of the area. He?s very friendly and a fount of information. We couldn?t ask for anything more.

These are uncommon to be able to ask for more. clean towels and wash cloths every day, Thank you for such great service, we will return to La Jolla

We made a last minute holiday reservation and could not believe our luck. The staff at loco gringo was helpful and professional, but didn 't prepare us for how perfect our rental was. Right on the ocean, with a small and well maintained pool in the lovely little town of akumal. The location. Was perfect for a family seeking beach over nightlife, and the condo was lovely and in great shape. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. We couldn 't have asked for more.

We stayed in number six on the top floor. It was perfect in regard to location to town and the restaurants on half moon bay . You can snorkel out front in the bay or walk down to yal ku lagoon. The bay in front is not great for snorkeling - too rocky , but the pool is perfect for cooling off . The staff were wonderful and the condo was spotless every day . There are a couple small convenient stores a stones throw away which is great to grab snacks or a bottle of wine . Would stay here again when I return .

Because we like to try different lodging, rarely do we return to the same place. We definitely would return to La Joya #5. It was spacious, well-decorated, clean and comfortable. Noise isolation between floors was very good. We travel to the area every few years and this was the first place we''ve stayed where there were no bugs of any type - - not even a gnat! Staff is excellent.

Loco Gringo did a fine job representing La Joya Condos. Katie and Kay answered all of our questions as we prepared for nine days at Half Moon Bay. The property was clean and well cared for. We especially enjoyed the fine sand beach, the pool and the view from our third floor apartment. Photos of the property are accurate. Activities included snorkeling in a protected coral reef and in Yal Ku Lagoon. Natural conditions in the sea push seaweed onto the shore all along the coast, so that is to be expected. We enjoyed three restaurants within close walking distance- Gynn''Ak, La Buena Vida and La Lunita(2x). At Akumal we snorkeled with turtles, went scuba diving with Akumal Dive Shop and ate at Turtle Bay and De Pescador. With a rental car, we visited Muyil Mayan site and jungle forest walk and Xel-Ha Mayan site. After Xel-Ha, dinner at Oscar Y Lalo was excellent and a great value. There are many other activities near by like Tulum, Xel-Ha Park and other parks, cenotes and beaches. I would recommend this property for couples and families.
