The Forty Cannons Hotel or in Spanish ‘La Posada de los 40 Cañones’, is a wonderful boutique hotel, located in the center of Mahahual, that will meet and exceed your expectations right from the start.
A beautifully-designed lobby with its water features flowing under a wooden walkway, tropical gardens integrated into the scenery, wicker lanterns suspended from the high ceilings –set a tone for a relaxing vacation. While the postcard-perfect views of the white beach, offset by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean will make you realize – it’s not a dream! You are truly in tropical paradise.
With a “No request is too small” mantra, it is no wonder that La Posada de los 40 Cañones service is something guests consistently talk about. The staff really go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable.
The Forty Cannons Hotel rooms are excellent. Depending on your needs and number of people travelling with you, you can choose between the Standard and Superior rooms, Junior and Family suites or hotel’s 2 spacious apartments.
All of the hotel’s accommodations are air-conditioned and come with a private bathroom, a ceiling fan, and Wi-Fi internet. The standard and superior rooms are furnished with a queen-size and a single bed. The suites boast breath-taking views of the Caribbean and Mahahual beach. While the modern apartments, located on the 2nd and 3rd floor, are even larger in size and feature a separate living room, a private balcony and a fully-equipped kitchen.
Off the central courtyard, you’ll find a thatched-roof Italian restaurant that opens up onto the Malecón and overlooks the beach. This is an ideal place to enjoy a chilled beer during the day or share a romantic dinner at night.
Across the street from the restaurant is the 40 Cannon’s beach club. Here you’ll find numerous lounge chairs, day beds and beach palapas for total relaxation. The water in front of the beach club is calm and shallow for quite a distance, making it great for swimming, snorkeling and kayaking (even if you are traveling with small children). There is a barrier reef worth exploring just off the shore. And if you wake up early in the morning you can sometimes see dolphins swimming by.

We traveled to Mahahual for the first time this October. We arrived with no reservation but I had a list of a few hotels I wanted to look at. We found La Posada de Forty Cannons first and once I saw it, I didn't even want to bother looking for the other ones. The hotel is lovely. It has a pretty courtyard with fountains and plants. We saw several of the rooms and all were nice. We went with one that had a king size bed and an ocean view. Prices were very reasonable. And the bed was COMFORTABLE. If you've traveled in Mexico much you know how rare that is! All rooms have AC. Large bathroom with shower. Spotless clean. We will definitely come back to Mahahual and we will definitely stay here again!
