Palacio-Gobierno-in-Merida

The Palacio de Gobierno is a fabulous mansion in Merida that houses a series of murals depicting the history of the Yucatan. This national heirloom was built in 1892 and showcases the architectural style of a bygone era. Merida experienced a boom of wealth at the end of the 19th Century due to the production of henequen. It was said that at that time Merida was home to more millionaires than any other city in the world.  Because of this, today the city of Merida displays a wealth of antique architecture.  No trip to Merida is complete without a visit to the Palacio de Gobierno…and it’s absolutely FREE!

Check out some of Merida’s luxurious haciendas.
