Playa del Carmen Restaurant Review – Piola Restaurant at 38th Street

Pizza at Piola Restaurant Playa del Carmen Mexico

This is where Italy meets Mexico. Piola Restaurant is tucked away on the corner of 38th street and 5th Ave close to the beach in Playa del Carmen. Their thin crust pizzas and homemade pastas are a popular local and visitors choice. The basil martini I suspect is the hit of the evening and should be. Top it off with great ambiance, nice people, and good prices and we think it is a winner. More than 40 Pizzas to choose from Their pizza menu is extensive with so many choices it is hard to pick...

Restaurant Review: Cafe Martin

Posted November 17, 2014 by Kay Walten in Food & Drink,Riviera Maya Restaurants

Apple_Pie

"Happiness is Homemade" That's the mantra at Cafe Martin. Everything at Cafe Martin is homemade, by Canadian expats who made Playa del Carmen home in 2008. Let's start with the baked goods.  Its easy to spend a morning sipping a cup of coffee and enjoying apple pie, chocolate chip banana bread,  or if you are like me cheese cake is a fine way to start the day.  Made fresh, you can choose from a variety of cakes, pies and cookies.   Get it to go, if you prefer and don't forget to get a...

Perfect if you are in love, or just love Italian food Posada Margherita is always a treat!  Posada Margherita on Tulum beach is the ideal spot for romantic dinners for two where under candle light you can enjoy  grilled local vegetables, hand-made pasta and the freshest seafood.  You can enjoy a cocktail or choose from the wine list specializing in Italian wines.   I personally love having a margarita and tapas in the afternoon.  The fresh breads and foccacia are delish! Restaurant review: Kaxapa Factory Playa del Carmen

Posted July 23, 2014 by Kay Walten in Food & Drink,Riviera Maya Restaurants

Kaxapa Factory Restaurant Playa del Carmen

Kaxapa is a hidden gem in Playa del Carmen's realm of restaurants.  This family-run eatery offers Venezuelan fare that is fresh, made with local ingredients and produce.  One of the menu items we liked best was the cachapas,  pancake made of corn meal. Their South American menu has vegetarian options and gluten-free!  The service is warm and welcoming, and the pricing is great too since it is off the main drag, you're not paying tourist prices like you would on the Quinta. Loco Gringo...

Restaurant review: El Sabor de Mexico

Posted July 14, 2014 by Kay Walten in Food & Drink,Riviera Maya Restaurants

El Sabor de Mexico restaurant Puerto Morelos Mexico

I recently had a great evening wandering around Puerto Morelos.  I popped into El Sabor de Mexico.  The staff was super friendly, and the restaurant had a nice local feel to it, of course with soccer playing on the TV screen.   The food is good standard Mexican fare, and El Sabor de Mexico has a full bar. Only thing is at night which was annoying was the the  mosquitos. For a good fix of your favorite Mexican dishes, eat here, just bring repellent. The restaurant also offers...

Don Chendo's Restaurant Riviera Maya Mexico

If you love Chicago style, deep dish pizza then you are going to love Don Chendo in Playa del Carmen. Don Chendo has a great menu of traditional Italian faves such as spaghetti and meatballs, rigatoni with sausage and peppers and double butter fettuccine Alfredo.  You can choose from a nice variety of salads, and vegetarian options!  One of the best deals in town for good pizza, starting at $120 pesos.   You won't find a full bar here, but definitely a cold cerveza or a glass of red...
