Diary of a Vegetarian in Mexico

october-9-blog-post-image-2

Oh Mexico, the land of meat, pork fat and Chicharrón (deep fried pork fat). Add in an abundance of seafood and local fish from the Caribbean Sea and vegetarians are a little fork shy in the Riviera Maya. But don't fret. Many a vegetarian or vegan traveler will be able to experience local food 'sin carne'. (without meat) Vegetarians just need to know where to go and what to eat so they can have a local foodie experience as good as, if not better than, the carnivores. Hidden Meat in Mexican...

By no means does this list mean other tacos are not great, nor do we think this is a complete list of taco places. We just wanted to highlight these two restaurants which have been a favorite of ours for over a decade. Tacos Pastor at El Fogon in Playa del Carmen Tacos Pastor are a treat, and very...

Nuestra-Senora-del-Carmen-main

A new food concept has hit Playa del Carmen. The Nuestra Senora del Carmen Food Hub is a great place to try different flavors, experience a different atmosphere and still be close to the beach. With two locations on 10th Avenue in Playa, this could be a great place to start your local Mexican food experience. The Food Hub Concept Think, food court with the sassiness of food trucks. Think established flavors in an easy to access space. Nuestra Senora combines all of this in one space, that is...

sam jimenez

What, in your opinion, makes this part of Mexico unique and worth visiting? The Caribbean side of Mexico has a lot to offer; great weather year round, beautiful beaches, cenotes and wildlife. I also appreciate the diverse gastronomy especially in Tulum. You can always find local Mayan delicacies, but the cultural diversity of Tulum has created an interesting mix of dishes, flavors and aromas that people love to experience. What’s the story behind your business/job? I manage El Pez in...

Playa del Carmen - Plank Restaurant

We just returned from a great dinner at Plank Restaurant in Playa del Carmen and wanted to share our experience. Located on 16th street between 5th and 1st Avenue, Plank is centrally located and a nice place to spend an evening. The highlight was great service, innovative cocktails, and a nice sea breeze. Note that Plan k is not located on the beach, but its proximity to the beach on 16th Avenue did provide a nice sea breeze during our meal. Tuna Cooked to Perfection at Plank Restaurant I...

el-oasis-playa-del-carmen-01

What a wonderful sight to see the other day as I was walking through Playa. My favorite seafood taco place is back on 12th street! Ten years ago ( how times fly) El Oasis was located on 12th street on the north side of the street. It was my go-to taco place when in Playa. Sadly this second location closed, leaving me with the only option of eating at the El Oasis restaurant located on the highway. Some of the Best Shrimp Tacos in Playa El Oasis is now located on the south side of 12th street...
