Playa del Carmen - Plank Restaurant

We just returned from a great dinner at Plank Restaurant in Playa del Carmen and wanted to share our experience. Located on 16th street between 5th and 1st Avenue, Plank is centrally located and a nice place to spend an evening. The highlight was great service, innovative cocktails, and a nice sea breeze. Note that Plan k is not located on the beach, but its proximity to the beach on 16th Avenue did provide a nice sea breeze during our meal. Tuna Cooked to Perfection at Plank Restaurant I...

el-oasis-playa-del-carmen-01

What a wonderful sight to see the other day as I was walking through Playa. My favorite seafood taco place is back on 12th street! Ten years ago ( how times fly) El Oasis was located on 12th street on the north side of the street. It was my go-to taco place when in Playa. Sadly this second location closed, leaving me with the only option of eating at the El Oasis restaurant located on the highway. Some of the Best Shrimp Tacos in Playa El Oasis is now located on the south side of 12th street...

Tulum Restaurant Review – Cetli Restaurant

Posted March 27, 2015 by Kay Walten in Food & Drink,Riviera Maya Restaurants

Cetli Restaurant Tulum Mexico

I have followed Claudia's culinary success for over 12 years. In the beginning she moved from restaurant to restaurant in search of the right location for her culinary expertise. 9 years ago she found her place, in the heart of Tulum Pueblo. This is the perfect place for her to share her love for authentic and cultural cooking. Claudia is special, her vision is unique, and her food is great. Before culinary historians, UNESCO, and other international chefs grabbed onto the cultural food...

Posted March 13, 2015 by Kay Walten in Food & Drink,Riviera Maya Restaurants

Cheap Eats in Tulum Mexico

Years ago Tulum was all about cheap eats and road side food stalls. The famous Tulum Chicken was an excuse for divers to visit cenotes and explore more caverns to the south. Today, the food landscape of Tulum has changed dramatically but the cheap eats are still a favorite of ours and worth checking out when in Tulum. Local Cheap Eats in Tulum Pollo Bronco - Pollo Bronco was our favorite chicken spot 20 years ago. In 2015 they still roast the best chicken in town. Located on the main highway...

Akumal Restaurant Review - La Cueva del Pescador

Now that you are in the Riviera Maya, I would suspect you are searching for some fresh fish to sink your teeth into. Well, look no further. For many years, La Cueva del Pescador has been serving fresh fish for locals and visitors. Their secret? The owner is a local fisherman who has been fishing in the Caribbean since 1982. Playa del Carmen Restaurant Review – Piola Restaurant at 38th Street

Posted January 9, 2015 by Kay Walten in Food & Drink,Riviera Maya Restaurants

Pizza at Piola Restaurant Playa del Carmen Mexico

This is where Italy meets Mexico. Piola Restaurant is tucked away on the corner of 38th street and 5th Ave close to the beach in Playa del Carmen. Their thin crust pizzas and homemade pastas are a popular local and visitors choice. The basil martini I suspect is the hit of the evening and should be. Top it off with great ambiance, nice people, and good prices and we think it is a winner. More than 40 Pizzas to choose from Their pizza menu is extensive with so many choices it is hard to pick...
