Today starts the 12th annual Turtle Festival! At Xcacel-Xcacelito festivities begin with a sand sculpture contest. The sand sculpture contest  is for local kids from 6 to 12 years old. Tomorrow the fun happens in Tulum at the Maya Culture Park underneath the dome.  Starting at 9 AM, until 2pm, there will be environmental and academic activities. Plans for  new planetarium in Playa del Carmen In 2015, a planetarium will be built in Playa.  This will be the fourth planetarium in the State of Quintana Roo.  The Cancun planetarium Ka´Yok´  has been open about 1 year,  Cozumel is just about complete, and the third is in the state's capital city of Chetumal. There is also talk of a fifth planetarium to be built in Tulum or Carrillo Puerto in the future.

Howler monkeys at Punta Laguna. Just before dusk is a good time to see the howlers and hear their evening roar that echos through the jungle. Punta Laguna Reserve near the Coba ruins is a community run monkey reserve. The the official name  Otoch Ma’ax Yetel Kooh, Maya for “the home of the spider monkey and the puma.”
