With Thanksgiving just around the corner, amazing options to celebrate have started to pop up. If you are currently vacationing in Riviera Maya you can still celebrate this great festivity here. There are a few options we highly recommend because of the family-friendly ambiance. From nice dinners to fantastic activities for kids that include live music and games for adults. This year’s Thanksgiving will be on Thursday, November 28th, so please make sure to mark that date on your calendar to celebrate even away from home.
Playa del Carmen as always leading the celebrations in Riviera Maya. And this time it will be the host for the Thanksgiving mini-market. The day will be full of fun activities for the family, including a pie-eating contest, and face painting. There will be live music, a photo booth, a bouncy house, lots of beer, and craft vendors. This event is family-friendly as well as pet-friendly, so you are more than welcome to bring your kids or your furry best friend. The Thanksgiving mini-market will be on November 28th, starting at 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. At Plaza Paseo Coba (on Aviacion Avenue). We almost forget to mention that the entrance to this event is FREE!
If you prefer something more quiet and private, just for you and your family, we also recommend a couple of restaurants to dine. Lol-Ha restaurant in Akumal will have a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner buffet. The meals include Roast Turkey basted with Yucatecan honey, Homemade gravy, Garlic chive mashed potatoes, Jalapeno tamale, Sweet potato casserole, Corn poblano, and Zucchini cheddar bake. For desserts, there will be Pumpkin pie, Pecan pie, Assorted ice creams with caramel or chocolate topping. The rate would be adults $29.00usd and kids under 12 years old will pay $20.00usd.
Oscar & Lalo’s restaurant (located in the jungle side of Soliman Bay), will also have a fantastic Flamenco show to accompany the Thanksgiving dinner. The four-course Turkey dinner would be $27.00usd per person, the Pork dinner would be $22.00usd per person, and kids from 4-11 years old will pay only half of the price. The main courses will be up to the customers, and they can choose from Herb butter roasted turkey with gravy, turkey with mole sauce, or Mayan style pulled pork. Appetizers will be Palm Dates Stuffed with Goat Cheese and Wrapped in Prosciutto Ham, Mexican Yam Soup, Fresh Greens Arugula Salad. Mains will be Herb Butter Roasted Turkey with Gravy; or Turkey with Mole Sauce; or Mayan Style Pulled Pork. Served with Creamy Mashed Potatoes seasoned with Rosemary, Roasted Garlic & Parmesan Cheese, Honey-Coconut Yams, Date, Pecan & Sausage Stuffing, Cranberry and Pineapple Relish, and Sweet Rolls. They will be offering Desserts Home made Pumpkin Pie, Apple Pie and Flan at an additional charge. For both restaurants, previous reservations are needed and highly recommended, as there will be a limited capacity to maintain a relaxed non-crowded vibe for the event.
The best part of this area is that you can pretty much celebrate Thanksgiving as you prefer. Could be snorkeling in an exotic Mayan cenote, sailing in a Catamaran having ceviche and margaritas, or simply having a nice dinner with your beloved ones.
