You do not want to forget to pack your golf clubs along with your swimming suit when travelling to Riviera Maya. This amazing 18-hole, par 72 course, designed by golfing legend Greg Norman, has made history by becoming the first golf course to host an official PGA Tour event outside of the USA and Canada.
This golf course is on the PGA circuit and the first golf course to host an official PGA Tour event outside of the USA and Canada. Designed by Greg Norman, the fairways wind gracefully through three distinct landscapes: the Yucatan jungle, mangrove forests and the spectacular Caribbean coastline. Paspalum grass covered fairways give golfers of all handicaps an opportunity to play a more aggressive game both with their chip and wedge shots. Favorite holes are the 7th and 15th holes (both are par 3’s) as they play right to the edge of the Caribbean giving golfers changing winds and beautiful views.
Another highlight of El Camaleon’s 7,024-yard layout is a cenote – an ancient underground cavern – incorporated right in the heart of the opening fairway. Many golfers are challenged when ask to pick their favorite hole. Many say they just love them all!
It’s also worth mentioning that El Camaleon is the only Riviera Maya course that features golf carts equipped with GPS yardage information system that allows you to guide your game, record your scores electronicall,y and even order food and refreshments. Having a fully stocked Golf Pro Shop, great facilities and the Willow Stream Spa at Fairmont Mayakoba close by, is definitely a plus too.
El Camaleon – Mayakoba is located only 40 minutes south of Cancun International Airport and 10 minutes north of Playa del Carmen. This convenient location leaves no excuse not to check it out! Note that the PGA Tour announced that the Mayakoba Golf Classic would be moving to its own date in November as part of the start to the 2013-2014 PGA Tour FedEx Cup season.
