La Mision Fray Diego, Merida hotel, Yucatan

  • In the Heart of Merida – Yucatan’s White City

Whether it is your first time to the Merida or your tenth, La Mision de Fray Diego Hotel is in the center of it all without feeling like you are in a big city. Steps from the Gran Plaza, Lucas de Galvez Market, the trending neighborhoods of Santa Lucia, Santa Ana and Santiago, you can spend your time walking this colonial city taking in the best of the best.

The hotel is down the street from the old orphanage, around the corner from one for the largest artisan stores and steps from the old convent. The famous Catherwood museum is a five minute walk and the Gran Plaza just two blocks from the hotel property. It could not get any better!

Architecture That Shows off Merida’s True Beauty

The hotel is unassuming on the outside, but like most Merida buildings, don’t let facades deceive you. As you walk into the hotel you are welcomed into a sunlit courtyard that centers around a large fountain and stone statue of Fray Diego. The front courtyard leads you into the large pool area and over 20 guest rooms located on three floors. You feel like you have stepped back in time and are living like a Meridiano in the late 19th century.

Three Room Types to Choose From

You have three choices for your room type, standard, superior and their Fray Diego Suite. If you stay in Merida for longer than a few nights, the Suite is a wonderful place to call home for awhile. This room has two levels, with the king bed and bedroom area overlooking the living area. Windows overlook the city and you are on a separate floor than other rooms giving you more privacy. With lots of space in both the living, bedroom and bathroom, you will be more than comfortable during your stay. The superior room is also a larger room than the standard rooms which is also located in a more private area in the hotel.

Your Stay Will be Comfortable, Enjoyable and Convenient

All room types have hair dryers, irons, a desk, air conditioning, pool towels, and bath amenities. The superior rooms and suites have bath tubs, a wonderful benefit after a long day of walking on the streets of Merida. The staff is helpful, the public areas comfortable and the restaurant located in the front of the hotel a wonderful option for breakfast, dinner or a night cap. Staff know Merida well so take advantage of their local knowledge as your navigate your way through the various neighborhoods and events in the White City.
