Do you know how some villas are called ‘luxurious’, but you find it hard to imagine yourself living there? Just like in a relationship, choosing your dream vacation home is all about chemistry. Even if you are only spending a week there, you want it to reflect your personality and personal taste. You want it to be warm, inviting, private and inspiring.
This is what Villa Las Vigas is like.
Designed as a couple’s secret getaway in one of the most private and breathtaking places of Riviera Maya. As soon as you walk into the living room, you will be mesmerized by the rich warm earth tones of hand-hewn beams and Mexican tile work. The sturdy de-barked trunks of chicle trees serve as natural columns to hold up the dark wooden beams. While numerous skylights fill the room with a kaleidoscope of sun rays. Large sofas with oversized white pillows make it easy to imagine yourself relaxing here with your feet up or cuddled up with your beloved one.
A series of decorative French doors open up from the living room to an awe-inspiring view. Here the emerald green waters of Yal Ku Lagoon, dotted with tiny islands, meet the bright blues of the Caribbean and disappear into the horizon. Gracious pelicans flying in formation along the coastline are a common sight here. While numerous tropical fish claim the calm waters of Yal Ku lagoon.
Drifting off to sleep lulled by the sound of the ocean waves caressing the shore is an undeniable benefit of living in a beach house. It is for this reason that both bedrooms of Villa Las Vigas are located on the ocean side of the house. What’s more, the beautiful Master bedroom features a wall of windows facing the Caribbean.
Both bedrooms boast king-size beds, decorated with original hand-carved headboards made from antique Spanish doors, elegant furniture pieces and oversized en suite bathrooms finished in traditional Talavera tile.
Villa Las Vigas’ kitchen is another designer master piece. Rich dark cabinetry, traditional tile countertops and high-quality appliances turn cooking into a pleasure.
A charming dining area for four people with French doors opens onto the Caribbean. It is a great place to savor those home-made Mexican delicacies over a glass of chilled white wine.
A partially covered patio that runs along the entire ocean side of the house offers several sitting and lounging areas. There is also a dining table here for those, who prefer to dine ‘al fresco’.
A few steps off the patio you will find another surprise – a nice sandy area, equipped with chaise lounges and an umbrella, perfect for relaxing and working on your glorious Caribbean tan.
From here a winding cobblestone pathway leads down to the Yal Ku lagoon’s edge. Steps and cupped rocks provide access to the water on calm days.
As to other activities, Half Moon Bay and the heart of Akumal are only about a mile away, offering some good and very affordable restaurants, world-class beaches, dive and gift shops, as well as convenience stores.

I really shouldn't tell what a wonderful relaxing place this is. We loved the local ambiance and privacy of this little villa that sits right on YalKu Lagoon. That staff was very friendly and quietly went about their duties. They had added a pool after we made our reservation and it was just right for relaxing in, plus your just a few yards from the lagoon where you can spend hours snorkeling. Would I tell a friend...definately! But I really want to keep it just our little secret.

Location is perfect and the snorkeling was great.
House is clean and nicely decorated. The view was breathtaking, to say the least. We plan to go back.

The house was even better than the web pictures portrayed. Wake up every morning with the sunrise and go to sleep at night to the sounds of the water. Lounge on your own private patio, with your very own infinity pool and waive to the snorklers as they swim by.
Access to the lagoon is better when the water is calm, but we figured it out. We were there in November and the lagoon was not crowded at all.
It truly is how the other half lives.

First of all, the pictures DO NOT do it justice! Las Vigas was beyond all expectation, a beautiful property set away from the tourism of Cancun and Playa del Carmen. You may be located in the heart of the Mayan Riviera, surrounded by ancient ruins and deep cenotes, but not leaving the property because it forces you to relax and you won't feel guilty later.
As I type this, I now wish I wasn't as I want to keep it our little secret and you can't rent it!

The only thing I can think of as a con, is the distance to the bay, especially if you have no car. That being said where else can you swim in the ocean...gets rough...and snorkel free every day, or all day in Yalku, and then come back and lounge in your own private pool. There is alot of shade and privacy at this villa, and this has to be one of the cleanest homes we have stayed in. The caretakers are sweet people so tip them well. They are the reason this home is so clean and well taken care of. We like this home because it has just two bedrooms and we are empty nesters still wanting the luxury of a private home. Also know that you will not find any goodies left over here like coffee, tea, foil, ziploks, etc, The kitchen is a bit spare for me as I love to cook. Just know before you go to throw in some bags, foil, etc..

Our favorite place at the Riviera Maya. Having used other properties in the past this one is the BEST.
Staff is excellent.
Suggestion: Pool is an outstanding addition but needs to be serviced just a little extra when used by 4 adults. Maybe adding chemicals toward evening or late afternoon?

A very nice house and grounds, nicely furnished as well. The caretakers are seen working on it a good deal of the time. The entire house is cleaned daily. The location is good for peace and quiet. Nice pool. Can snorkel off the rocks directly behind the house if the surf isn't too rough. Convenient location between playa del carmen and tulum allows easy trips to both. Kitchen can't be cleaned to my standards due to age/design. Not due to the fault of the cleaners. We were happy here.

The best compliment to a property and vacation experience is when the guests re-book for the following year while still at the property! That is exactly what we did. The four of us (two couples and life long friends) so enjoyed our stay. The house is authentic Mexico, on the lagoon and couldn't be nicer!

Great rental home. Good location. The weather was cool and rainy but we still did a lot of activities like snorkeling and adventure package at Hidden Worlds.

Very romantic getaway anniversary celebration. Loved the view, loved the pool. Villa was very warm and inviting. Wished it was beachfront. Missed walking along the beach.
