Millions of people dream about an ideal vacation and thousands hope to visit the tropical paradise of Riviera Maya one day and see the beauty of the Caribbean for themselves. But there are only some, who take their dreams and turn them into reality.
If you are one of these people than take a look at Casa Sea Gate!
This beautiful oceanfront villa is located on the dramatic rocky coastline of Akumal. Casa Sea Gate is one of those rare properties that will appeal to adults and children alike.
Its colorful details, 4 beautiful bedrooms, an amazing outdoor space and a very large pool make it a winning choice for big families or 8-10 friends traveling together.
The main level of the house hosts an expansive living and dining area with large windows and glass doors that open to an ocean side patio. Right next to the dining room there is an entertainment room and a fully equipped kitchen with a door that leads to the pool deck. So if you are having a pool party or just snacking outside, you will have everything close at hand.
Another great thing about Casa Sea Gate is that all of its bedrooms face the Caribbean and come with either a porch or a cozy balcony, where you can read a book, savor your morning cup of your coffee or admire the sun rising over the sparkling blue waters of the ocean. It is also worth mentioning that all of the bedrooms boast unique en-suite bathrooms, so none of the guests will feel like they are missing out or getting an inferior room.
Three of the bedrooms feature a king-size bed, while the 4th bedroom (adored by kids for its fun, colorful design) comes with two double beds and a single bed.
Another luxurious ‘feature’ that everyone enjoys is the large swimming pool surrounded by the limestone tanning deck and a cookout area that becomes a center for mouth-watering cookout parties and bonding. This area always looks festive and decorated thanks to the brightly colored flowers and manicured garden. The bright reds, greens, and oranges together with the brilliant blue hues of the swimming pool, make you feel as if you have discovered a beautiful Eden.
This feeling grows even stronger when you first see the splendor of Akumal’s coral reef and the underwater world. The best part is that all this natural beauty is just a 3-minute walk away from your house. In this area you will also find a variety of local restaurants, grocery shops and cute gift shops.
Just imagine strolling barefoot along the beach… taking a deep breath of the fresh ocean air… and letting the sound of the waves melt your worries away.
This is what they call being fully present and living in the moment. So the real question is what can you do this moment to make your long-awaited dream come true?

Gregorio and Margarita were wonderful cuidadores, they diligently kept the casa clean and tidy and helped in the kitchen. Gregorio made limeade and OJ, and they cooked two mayan meals for us. Let them know what you need, the tortilla van goes by everyday, and they can have things brought to the house.
The home is on the water, on a rocky point, the waves are breaking non-stop 50 yards off the back patio. The pool in the front is protected from the winds and provides a different outdoor atmosphere. Wifi allowed us to do some "work from home." The situation of the casa means great ventilation, but the a/c worked to help the kids sleep longer.
We rented a golf cart in town from Marcelo and shuttled over to the center of the town beach. The walk is pretty short but with gear and kids it was worth it.
The manager, Roger, and his team went out of their way to help us. Alex drove us to tiendas in the puebla for cheaper shopping.
Only regret is that the week went by too fast.
FWIW there is no aux input on stereo, if you want to use it with ipod, i think you need to bring a radio transmitter.

Casa Sea Gate is a gem. This is our second stay in Akumal (August 2011), and while we also enjoyed the first property we rented on the same block (August 2009), we fell in love with Casa Sea Gate. The property truly is beautiful. Upon our arrival one member of our group couldn't stop saying how overwhelmed she felt because of how beautiful the place was. Not enough good things could be said about the caretakers, Don Gregorio and Margarita. They are SO friendly and professional. They not only keep the grounds in perfect condition, but also go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. For example, Don Gregorio brought us fresh coconuts one night right off the tree. On another occasion, he washed all of our fruit, cut it up, and put it in a serving bowl in the refrigerator.
A few practical highlights:
- The pool is QUITE large. We were a family of 8 adults and could have easily had 8 more in the pool with us!
- The rooms are spacious. 3 out of the 4 bedrooms have queen/king size beds and the fourth has 3 beds – one small bed and two twins.
- Each bedroom has a BEAUTIFUL bathroom.
- The ocean-facing side is also gorgeous – don't miss the sunrises!!!! There is no beach outside of the house, there is just a small sandy patch but it's quite rocky
- The beach/small grocery store is literally a 5-minute walk away.
- There is a COMPLIMENTARY meal waiting for you on your day of arrival (prepared by Don Gregorio). We wish we'd known this ahead of time, so make sure to check with the person doing your reservation to verify.
Overall, this house is awesome – we couldn't have been happier. We love Akumal and will be returning yet again. Akumal recommendations are:
- Loncheria Akumalito (right at the entrance of Akumal, on right)
- Cenote Azul and Gran Cenote. Two gorgeous places! Cenote Azul is less visited and just as beautiful (bring bug spray)
- Hidden Worlds Adventure Park – worth the $60, but be prepared for a "rugged excursion" – amazing place though!
- Coba ruins – guide is a MUST!

This is a gracious, well-appointed casa. We felt like it was home away from home. The multi-level house and with four separate bedrooms, each with its own full bath, provided the privacy our group of 8 people needed. Our grandchildren loved the pool and seeing a turtle come up on the beach at night to dig her nest. Gregorio's cooking is wonderful, we enjoyed two dinners that he provided.
View of the ocean from the porch and balconies is stunning.

Casa Sea Gate was our first foray outside of the condominium world in Akumal, and a wonderful find. The home itself is located on the ironshore between Akumal and Half Moon Bays; the walk to the arches really is just a few minutes. The central location allows for easy strolls to the bay for a morning snorkel, or to the usual haunts for lunch or dinner (Loncheria, Pescadores). The home's layout would fit several families, and the space (and pool) are extremely well cared for by staff. The pool is a welcome addition, as were the numerous hammocks about the property. We will certainly return.

The house is wonderful and suited 3 couples with room to spare. I was unfortunate enough to fall down the stairs inside the house and injured myself severely (went to the hospital in Tulum via ambulance for approx. 100 stitches to my face and head). What an experience that was in itself. Other than the fact that handrails need to be installed for the stairs inside the house was awesome. Margarita and Gregorio took great care of us and what a delightful couple they are. Our every need was met with a smile. Gregorio and Margarita fixed a dinner for a total of 17 of us and it was wonderful. They were also helpful during my accident in getting the ambulance. The wind that came through the house was all we needed for air conditioning and we were all quite comfortable. Must say that if recuperation is what is needed you can''t beat this place. Feeling the spray from the waves all the way in the living room was a delight. Location of the house was central to Akumal and within walking distance of restaurants and shopping. I''d go again in a hot minute!!
