In the globalized world of super-sized beach resorts, Petit Lafitte challenges the concept of ‘standardized luxury’. The owners’ philosophy is simple – pampering their guests with personalized 5-star service, a tranquil, inviting atmosphere and delicious, freshly-prepared meals.
Petit Lafitte, with its private cabin-style bungalows and hotel rooms, is nestled right on the white sandy beach of Riviera Maya, just a few kilometers north of Playa del Carmen.
The story has it that a well-known French pirate Jean Lafitte earned a pardon for his crimes, by aiding the United States in the War of 1812. It’s easy to imagine that after becoming a respected member of society, the ex-pirate retired to the Yucatan Peninsula and spent his days drinking Margaritas and lazing in a hammock under the palm trees. In fact, he’d probably love the Petit Lafitte’s secluded location, laid-back atmosphere and homey, rustic-style bungalows.
The 17 bungalows, nestled along the coconut grove and tropical gardens, are air conditioned and feature a king size bed (or two double beds), a private terrace, a safe, minibar, coffeemaker and free Wi-Fi. The Petit Lafitte bungalows can be divided into three categories: beach front, ocean view and garden view. Regardless, of which one you choose, you’ll still be only a few steps away from the turquoise waters of the Caribbean.
The hotel rooms overlook the beautiful pool area and Playa del Carmen’s white sandy beach. Just like the bungalows, Petit Lafitte hotel rooms are equipped with a king size bed (or two double beds), a private terrace or a balcony (depending on the floor) and other amenities, including a safe, minibar and a hairdryer. In addition to Wi-Fi, all hotel rooms also come with cable TV and a telephone. You can read more details in the Amenities section to choose the type of accommodation and the view that suits you best.
Be ready to embrace numerous water sport activities right off the beach. Or if you are looking for hours of relaxation, just pick one of the chaise lounges around the pool or on the beach.
Should you want to spend a day, exploring the Riviera Maya and its Eco parks, the Petit Lafitte’s concierge service will be happy to arrange a tour for you. They can also give you insider’s advice on the must see places and must do activities during your Riviera Maya vacation.
Bottom line is: Petit Lafitte is a perfect and unique Caribbean getaway for couples, families and ex-pirates. To book one of its charming beach cabanas or hotel rooms, press the “Add to Inquiry” button below and raise the bar for your next Riviera Maya vacation!

We stayed years ago at the original Capitan Lafitte. We were eager to see the new Petit Lafitte. It was as wonderful as before. The staff is excellent, they know your name almost immediately. Breakfast and lunch are included in the rates. Good food, good location, nice pool and fantastic staff. The rooms are clean and each have a private balcony. As we were leaving, we had a spider monkey cross in front of us on the access road. A nice goodbye!
