It’s easy to imagine a tropical paradise. It looks (and feels) just like staying at Hotel Akumal Caribe: pristine white sands, the calm turquoise waters of the Caribbean, a refreshing ocean breeze and a fruity cocktail, garnished with a wedge of pineapple and a little paper umbrella.
Nestled in the heart of Akumal, Hotel Akumal Caribe is a peaceful, unpretentious and natural retreat for couples and families.
The oceanfront hotel rooms and bungalows are comfortable, spotlessly-clean, spacious and air-conditioned. Each is equipped with a private bathroom, a small fridge, coffee maker, safe, and either a terrace or a balcony. The amenities are great and water pressure in the shower is awesome (a fact that many experienced Riviera Maya travelers will surely appreciate).
A row of coconut palm trees, separate the hotel from the white sandy beach, providing extra shade and creating an atmosphere of privacy and seclusion. Even during the high season, when many snorkelers and divers fleet to Akumal Bay to swim with large sea turtles and admire the diversity of marine life, Hotel Akumal Caribe maintains its serene and laid-back appeal.
You don’t have to be a professional diver to explore the Caribbean underwater wonderland. Basic snorkeling gear will do just fine. However, if you want to take scuba diving lessons or rent diving gear, Akumal Dive Center is located on site, as is the Lol Ha restaurant and a beachfront snack bar.
The calm, shallow waters of Akumal Bay are perfect for adults to snorkel and safe for children to swim and frolic. There are also plenty of areas designed for lounging and relaxation. Relax by the large outdoor pool, enjoy your siesta nap in one of the beach hammocks or lounge under a beach palapa with the Caribbean as your backdrop.
If you haven’t yet been to Riviera Maya, make sure that you also leave some time to visit the ancient Tulum’s ruins, swim in the freshwater cenotes or plan a day tour to one of Riviera Maya’s eco-parks.
Also make sure that you book your stay at Hotel Akumal Caribe in advance. The hotel’s affordable rates, prime location on Akumal’s main beach and genuinely friendly service is what keeps guests coming back here year after year! Inquire about Hotel Akumal Caribe today so you can have your little slice of paradise during your next vacation.

Having had stayed on Half Moon Bay and at an AI in Akumal, I have to say that this hotel offered us the best vacation ever. We've stayed in Akumal seven times. Close proximity to one of the best and fairest priced dive shops, as well as walking distance to some very decent restaurants really helped. The deal sealer is the amazing beach location though. Staying on the ground floor and having direct access to the beach was perfect. Also took advantage of the Budha Spa. What a great stay. Will definitely be back.

Great location on the beach, easy walking distance to all restaurants and activities. The hotel staff was friendly but the rooms are very small, furniture is well below average, the air conditioner rattled loudly all night and the incredibly hard mattresses have a PLASTIC cover below the sheets. I guess the owners expect an influx of bed-wetters. Needs a total overhaul.

bed was very uncomfortable - if staying @ Akumal would suggest the Las Casitas - a complete different world.

We are repeat guests at Club Akumal Caribe and have had friends and relatives join us. My brother is also a repeat guest. We have already made our reservations for next year. The rooms are clean, large and basically furnished. The balconies and patios are fabulous and look over the beach, pool and beautiful Akumal Bay. We don't rent cars so need a location close to the beach, great restaurants and public transportation. Club Akumal Caribe gives us all of that PLUS. We have amazing snorkeling within 50 feet of our room and a beautiful pool and lounge area even closer. The sand is soft and white and there are lots of little palm trees to snooze under if you need to find a place out of the sun. They put pads on the beds in the rooms and on the sunbeds! If you want to break out of the "marble palace all-inclusive resort rut" and are looking for a quiet, traditional clean hotel right on the best beach on the Maya... then stop looking, this is it.

We have stayed at this hotel 4 times. It's perfect for us, all we are looking for is a quiet hotel, a great beach with snorkeling, some good food. There's not a lot of night life at this location and that's fine with us. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for peace and quiet. If you want a lot of action you'd better go some where else.

When we checked-in we found out we were the only occupants of the hotel that evening. It was like having your own private space in Akumal paradise. The pool was spotless, as were the rest of the grounds. Housekeeping was excellent.

We stayed here in November 2007. It is clean, on the beach and next to the Lo-Ha for happy hour. Snorkeling was OK in Akumal bay but better in Half Moon Bay. It is right next door to the dive shop and diving was great.
Nothing fancy but who needs frills when you are visiting paradise. We never spend much time in our rooms when we are on vacation.

We had a wonderful time.
We do think the price is a little steep for a room with no kitchenette.
Beautiful view & beach access. It was perfect for the type of destination we were seeking ~

Personnel were very helpful. Grounds are kept immaculate by many hard working people. Housekeeping staff did a fantastic job. Chair guy found my wifes Oakley sunglasses and held them for her. The proximity to everything is great. Thanks to everyone. We've already booked for Jun'10
For a beach hotel it was inexpensive and basic but exactly what we wanted. On the beach, no tv, wonderful help.

Charming, well designed, low-rise hotel in a prime location on the beach. We loved the fact that the ocean breeze flowed through the room. In fact, we turned the air conditioning off. Each morning we watched the sunrise from our balcony. It was lovely. I would recommend this hotel to any and all. There was good snorkeling right off the beach.

Perfect location to unwind and reflect on all the beauty in the world. My teenage daughters and I enjoyed our entire trip. The Bay for snorkeling and relaxing are what we came for and it was like a postcard. We laughed and smiled from the moment we arrived, from riding bikes, dining outside, and swimming with the turtles, we will be returning as this is what a vacation is suppose to be about. The people at the Hotel were so nice and always smiling and cheerful.

Our family (M, D, 7 YO and 8 YO sons) had a great time in Akumal. The Hotel is idealy situated - beach, palm trees, pool, restaurant, bar, shopping, snorkeling. The staff was very helpful, especially George/Jorge. Our room was clean, the AC worked great, and the beds were very comfortable - we had a king and our sons were in doubles in an adjoining room.

While this is not a 4 start hotel in regards to the actual rooms, linens and luxuries...in that regard it would be a 3 star. However it's location and staff are a 5. I would highly recommend for say 2 or 3 nights then you might want to move on if looking for a little more luxury. Can't beat for the price and location though! And don't miss the little taco stand by the dive shop...UNREAL and Delightful.

I love Akumal and this is the perfect location within Akumal. We saw turtles, stingrays, squid, and lots of other cool stuff every time we hit the water. I had the most relaxing massage of my life in the spa. The pool was great as well.

Stayed 8 nts Feb 2010, people from all over Mayan coast come to snorkel and sun bathe at Akumal so a great, clean, beach front hotel with attentive staff for about $200/night!! Just book it and then book it to Club Akumal Caribe Hotel!. Villa Mayas is the same property and the same quality but no oceanfront 20 paces behind Club Akumal Caribe. 5 or 6 Restaurants, 2 minute walk away were all worth going to again. Hotel can arrange any tour, do Coba and cenote all day tour, amazing! We will return to Akumal as our new sun and sand pilgrimage every year.

Stayed 6 nights on our 1st visit to Mexico and loved it (after spending the 1st 3 nights at the AI, Moon Palace).
Walking distance to about anything in Akumal, Private section under palms on beach, great beach chairs.
Very basic amenities, bed very hard, room small, furniture (small table, 2 chairs) is sub-standard.
This is a great place for the uppity, minimalist traveler, compared to the cheaper, bungalow option. We liked it and would stay there again if personal economics dictated it.

We just got back from Hotel Akumal Caribe for 9 nights. Our second trip and we still love it. Beach is beautiful and people are friendly.
I do feel the rooms do need to be updated. We don't expect anything but just a little update would be nice. BUT, those maids clean those rooms and they were cleaner than fancier hotels we have been too. Breakfast is included for two people. They need to figure out the coupon for free breakfasts at Lol Ha b/c the waiters would get confused. Free internet in room. Thought it was wireless but not, ethernet. We will be back and there are alot of return customers.

This was about my 8th or 10th stay at Hotel Akumal Caribe, kind of lost count, but I always enjoy my stay here, the rooms are basic but very clean and spotless and like the old real estate saying goes:
"Location, location, location"
Just steps to the great beach and the pool is also nice, little bigger than a dipping type pool. Lots of good restaurants nearby and this year the breakfast at Lol-Ha was included in the price.
It is nice that is is just a bit south of the main bay so not as many boats and people and the hotel guests have their own section of palapas. Also the Budha Gardens Spa is just south of the pool if you feel like a massage or other type of treatment.
Things that could be improved:
Water pressure in the shower, but to be fair this can be an issue at many places in this area.
Offer sausage on the breakfast besides just bacon or ham.
Will be back!

Our stay was wonderful. The hotel is old and small but very quaint. Wonderful staff. Close to everything. It was delightful just to watch the beach and snorkel right out front. Food was great at Lol Ha and the palapa bar next door. Not for those who want to party all night. The whole town closes up about 9 PM. We had a great time. Wish we could have stayed for a month.

We had a wonderful time at Club Akumal Caribe. It was quiet, convenient, on the beach and easy to get to. The staff was friendly and very helpful, particularly when my car rental company had to come and replace the registration sticker on my car.
The continental breakfast that comes with the room was a good fruit plate with toast or a muffin and coffee. Plenty for our AM meal. Everything in the local area was within easy walking distance, including restaurants and two grocery stores.
The pictures were taken about 30 paces from our door
We will happily stay here again in the future.

I would love to recommend this property because it is on a great beach and the restaurant is very good and always consistent. It is in dire need of some remodelling, a simple painting might suffice. That aside, we had a nice time there.
The hotel location and staff are both excellent. It is an easy walk to the small "commercial" area near the Akumal Playa where there are shops, restaurants, a yoga studio and two well stocked grocery stores. Although my wife likes a little more shopping variety for her afternoon walk, I am not afflicted with this problem.
The Lol Ha restaurant and snack bar are on the beach right next to the hotel. The continental breakfast, with a fruit plate, toast or muffin and coffee, is served in the Lol Ha restaurant overlooking Akumal bay. A much better view than the snow banks at home.
Good snorkeling requires only a short walk in to the water. Large sea turtles, sting rays and a variety of fish and coral banks are all within easy swimming distance.
The hotel also includes a number of bungalows which are quite spacious.
This is a very quiet and relaxing location which we have enjoyed on several occasions.
Having a rental car is a big plus as it allows us to travel to points south and north on our own schedule. Tulum is an easy half hour south and Playa del Carmen an easy 45 mins north. Obey the speed limits and you should have no problems.
On the beach. Dive center, Lolha breakfast veranda, happy hour, and everything you need is just right there! Easy walk to Turtle Bay, Cueva del Pescadors.
No need for tv, balcony is great for your wet clothes and equipment.

Some people like resorts that could be anywhere. I like a resort like Akumal that has the feel of Mexico. The public beach the small harbor and the great food options gave you that feel.

I love HAC! It always amazes me how close to the beach it is and how safe I feel there. The only thing I would complain about is my noisy neighbors (adjoining room), but that was not the hotel's fault. :)

I come back here as often as possible. This is a genuinely beautiful place staffed by very nice, professional, local Mayan people who care alot about their beach and their guests. If you are looking for a big, touristy, busy, crowded, over the top hotel do not come here. It is for people who love the beauty of the ocean, the beach, excellent food and nice staff who really care.

Check in was a breeze and we were escorted to our room. This resort has a private area on the beach with palapa's. Lounge chairs with pads are brought out by a staff member for you. The pool over looks the beach. Everything is right in front of you.

Fantastic location right on the beach. The pool was beautiful and cleaned daily. Lots of loungers and shade by the pool and on the beach. The room was good with a small balcony and an awesome view. The room was cleaned well each day and all the staff we encountered especially at the font desk were friendly and very helpful. Will go there again.
