If you’re chasing that get-away-from-it-all feeling, then you’ll be surprised what a difference an hour’s drive from Cancun can make in peaceful tranquility. Here, the turquoise waters meet the sweeping white sand of Xpu-Ha beach, and the thatched-roof bungalows hold the promise of blissfully-relaxing days, romantic evenings and serene starry nights.
This secluded slice of the Riviera Maya is home to the charming beachfront resort – Al Cielo Hotel. Exclusive and private, it incorporates 2 chic garden villas, La Mar Master Suite and 4 rustically-elegant suites, named Water, Air, Earth and Fire after the four classical elements.
The villas, Atardecer and Girasol, are designed for couples and families of 4. Both come with large terraces, en-suite bathrooms and are just a stone’s throw from the beach.
The 4-Elements suites are a couple’s treat. They are even designed using dark-chocolate notes of exotic wood and milk-white fabrics, covering beautiful king-sized beds. The two beach level suites (Tierra and Fuego) boast large terraces with hammocks and sunken outdoor bathtubs. The upper lever rooms (Agua and Viento) feature long balconies complete with hammocks, to make those breezy oceanfront siesta naps even sweeter.
If you want a million-dollar views, stay at the La Mar Suite and pamper yourself with a private sunken pool, large beachfront terrace and awe-inspiring Caribbean sunrises.
Just below La Mar Suite, Al Cielo Hotel hides another secret – “Villa del Patron”. ‘Secret’, because those who have stayed here once, prefer to keep it hidden for themselves. Minimalistic and spacious this beachfront villa accommodates 4 people and comes with 2 separate bathrooms. Add a private beachside swimming pool and jungle dunes fringed with palm trees as a back yard, and you’ll realize how quickly you can get used to the idea of being the ‘patron’ (or the boss) of this place.
Amongst the other treasures of Al Cielo Hotel is a beachside seafood restaurant, serving complimentary continental breakfast under a high palapa roof, a private beach club and relaxing spa treatments for an extra touch of pampering and relaxation.
Whether you are planning a beach wedding, a family vacation or a couple’s getaway, Al Cielo Hotel is where you want to be!

The location of Al Cielo is simply great. I've visited beaches all over the world and this one is among the best for quiet relaxation. The sand is amazing, the beach is not crowded, and you can snorkel right in front of the hotel. Our room was charming with a great view of the water, 50 steps from our room. The shower was hot and forceful. Our maid was very thorough and sweet. I'm a soft bed guy and woke up with a stiff back most days from what I called a Flintstone King. The restaurant was the only real disappointment. We were very glad we did not opt for the half-board option, as the food was very overpriced and the menu was limited. We had two dinners during our 7 days - each time one of us had sub-par food and very slow service. The breakfasts were much tastier, but we rarely got what we ordered. The front desk was polite, but not exactly with it. Nobody seemed interested in checking us in at the beginning of our stay. And, I checked us out the last evening of our stay they thought we still owed half. I had to remind them that my reservation was made through Loco Gringo
