Sombras del Viento (shadows of the wind) is the name of this luxury beach villa located on Soliman Bay, near Tulum and far away from the hustle and bustle of the big Cancun resorts.
On the white sand beach with sparkling turquoise waters and wrapped in palm trees swaying in the ocean breeze, Sombras del Viento highlights the bright colors and rich natural beauty of its surroundings. It offers living and dining with incredible views and the cool sea breeze. Sombras del Viento offers contemporary comfort with air conditioning in the interior that combines natural materials (marble, exotic wood, etc) and a pool facing the beach.
Several vast wooden terraces covered with palapas will allow you to take advantage of the easy climate and to enjoy the magnificent landscape that this bay has to offer. The housekeepers live in the onsite guest house and provide all the necessary services to make your vacation easy.
The house is divided into 3 independent units, so anyone can find space to relax, and there’s a large table upstairs where everyone can get together for meals. For 2 – 7 guests, you can rent 1 or both of the ground floor units while the top floor is not rented to avoid any annoyance. For 8 guests or more, you will have access to the entire house.
Bora being the smallest of the units, is the perfect choice for a romantic couple looking forward to a relaxing vacation. This bungalow apartment includes a charming living room with an American style kitchen and a lovely bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, a king-size bed and a large terrace overlooking the magnificent Soliman Bay.
Sirocco is a 2-bedroom condo that is great for a family of 5 or for friends travelling together. It features an elegant living room with a fully-equipped kitchen, a king-size bedroom facing the ocean and another bedroom, furnished with 1 queen-size and 1 single bed.
Mistral is the largest of the condos as it takes up the whole upper floor and accommodates up to 8 people. Here you will find a large living room, two spacious dining areas (one indoors and one on the terrace), a fully-equipped kitchen and a games area with a billiards table. The Caribbean feel of this bungalow apartment becomes even more accentuated by a palapa roof, bright splashes of juicy colors and picture-frame views of the Soliman Bay.

We were only here for three days, after being moved from our original rental unit in the Sian Ka'an.
The two-bedroom unit is very comfortable, one of three units in a large building right on the beach of Soliman Bay. Like other protected bays along the Riviera Maya, the beach is sandy above the water line, rocky below, so this is not a swimming beach. However, you can kayak or float out into the bay to find sandy-bottomed places for swimming, and there is a pool. Also, the unit provides kayaks and snorkeling equipment which allow you to explore the bay and the coral reef, which is interesting.
The unit itself was very comfortable for the four of us (parents and teens aged 17 and 19) and attractively furnished. We really enjoyed the large front porch on the beach side of the unit, overlooking the pool. This is where we spent most of our time. While there's no satellite TV for entertainment, we appreciated the dvd player so we could watch movies that we brought along.
Because there are no large resorts on Soliman Bay, it wasn't too crowded or busy. We enjoyed Soliman Bay more than Puerto Aventuras, where we stayed last year. We also liked the proximity to Tulum and Akumal.
I would recommend this to others, so long as they aren't looking for a swimming beach.

This was perfect in soooo many ways! We rented the one bedroom, but will go back with a larger group too! Right on the beach, great pool, walk to 2 very different restaurants, and 15 min drive to tons of activities, Tulum, and Akumal. Everything felt new and fresh better than our accomadations/suite at the 5 star all inclusive we were at for a few days prior to our arrival at Sombra. The staff was great, courteous and helpful.

The apartments within Sombras del Viento make it easy to travel with other families and still maintain privacy. The walk-out leading right to the pool and beach allows the kids to play on their own while you keep an eye on them. We had a fabulous time and wouldn't hesitate renting this apartment again. Just keep in mind that you'll have at least a 15 minute drive to access grocery shopping, gas stations, etc.

We loved our stay at Sombras del Viento, the kids loved the pool and the beach, also the Sirocco apt. was perfect for us, clean, enough room for everyone, you need to bring watershoes because of the grass and rocks when getting into the sea.We loved it and we are going to repeat it with more family and friends.

We stayed at Sombras del Viento last August. We stayed in the 2 bedroom unit on the first floor. The newly built house is well equiped, clean and very comfortable. It was a great vacation. The house is about 10km from Tullum which is an easy ride to make your grocery or have a snack.
It was our first try at renting a property and we really liked the formula. The only downside might be the access road from the main street which was in bad condition but they had already started to improve it when we were there.
A great place!

Amazing house in an amazing location. We had 12 people stay a week at the house, and we could have stayed for a month!
--It is a large, well-appointed house.
--Right on the beach.
--Plenty of seating and decks.
--Amazing staff who took care of all our needs.
--Spacious. Big enough for 12 people to have there own space and never feel cramped or in each others business.
--Great pool and well kept grounds.
--An iguana that we named Leo.
--We got a private chef for the week (Roger). If you have it in your budget, we HIGHLY recommend it. The chef was a highlight of the week.
--Kayaks and snorkel equipment included.
--Short drive to a lot of sites, groceries, etc.
--Our favorite excursion was Beach Road in Tulum.
--Take the walk down the beach to Chamico's and get the ceviche!
--Crazy bumpy access road to the house.
--Due to seagrass and rocks, you probably need water shoes to enter the ocean.
--If someone comes by trying to get you to go to Sahara Cafe (a restaurant down the beach)...I would think twice. We had a pretty bad experience there. Go to Chamico's instead!
Overall, amazing property. We would go back in a heartbeat.

We absolutely loved staying at Sombras Del Viento. We stayed in the 2 bedroom Sirocco apartment with our two children. Everything from the hosts & staff to the landscaping is top notch!. The apartment has everything you need during your stay and the bedrooms can be air conditioned if you like. The location is great, lots of privacy but only a short drive into Tulum for dining and shopping. The pools, decks, and sitting areas are wonderful. Our kids loved looking for shells along the bay and snorkeling from the kayaks. I would highly recommend staying in either the two apartments or renting the entire house if you have a larger group.
