If you’re on the lookout for some sandy salvation for just the two of you then look no further. Romantic and quaint, Casa Maya is a quintessential beach getaway.
Just picture a cozy stone cottage, tucked away from the road and hidden beneath palm trees, facing the breathtakingly-blue waters of Half Moon Bay.
Featuring just one king-size bedroom, Casa Maya is a perfect size for a couple, looking for privacy and a low-key beach vacation. Unlike numerous beachfront apartments and guest houses of Akumal, Casa Maya was built on a private lot, meaning that there is no larger house claiming the grounds.
The most memorable ‘feature’ of this beach cottage is, without a doubt, a postcard-perfect view that opens from the Casa Maya living room. The contrast of the azure waters of the Caribbean against the rough limestone wall makes you go Wow!
Besides the charming living room with its flamingo-pink sofas, the open-concept living space incorporates a dining area, a breakfast bar and a well-stocked kitchen.
If you enjoy cooking, you’ll also like the idea of having a built-in charcoal grill right on a beachside patio. An outdoor table with comfy chairs completes the idyllic picture: buttery shrimps on the grill, chilled corona in hand and powder white sand disappearing into the shimmering waters of the Half Moon Bay. It’s definitely enough to make the neighbors green with envy.
The master bedroom of Casa Maya is air-conditioned, spacious and modern, featuring a private sitting area and an en-suite bathroom. If you have guests staying over, the living room’s couch folds out to make a double bed, accommodating everyone.
Beach living doesn’t get any closer than this. Literally, just 4 steps down from the patio and your feet will touch the soft white sand. Out on the beach you’ll find a couple of chaise lounges for sunbathing. And you don’t have to go far to find great snorkeling. There is plenty of tropical fish and coral to see a little farther out by the reef (bring water shoes or fins!), and Yal-Ku Lagoon is nearby.
The famous La Buena Vida restaurant & swing bar is a stroll away from Casa Maya. But there are two other restaurants – Que Onda and La Lunita – even closer to the house.
What to say? “Love in a cottage” has never been so sweet and so tempting!

My wife and I went to a wedding in Akumal and stayed at Casa Maya for a week in February. Everything about the stay was perfect. Perfect size villa for two people, snorkeling just off the porch, the shops / restaurants of the small town of Akumal were just down the road, and it served as a great location to check out sites like Coba. We will definitely be going back.

Week long stay (May 4 - May 11,2012) at Casa Maya was perfect for the 2 of us. This charming casita has been well cared for and the landscaping is beautiful. We like the fact that the casa sits back from the road. If you aren't looking for the place you would never know it was there. Just a few steps out the door and you are on the beach. The pictures on the website are spot on. We travel to Akumal at least 2 times each year and we knew that the water entry was rocky but that in no way hampered us from enjoying the water. Just make sure you pack your water shoes to walk a short distance for a clear place to stand.

The bed was absolutely horrible. It was literally held up by a large rock. My wife had to sleep on the fold out couch and I didn't get a single decent night's sleep. Other than that we really enjoyed Casa Maya. The location was great, close enough to restaurants but with a secluded feeling. We will go back if they have a new bed. Would give it 4 stars if we could actually sleep.

We just returned from a week's stay at Casa Maya on Half Moon Bay. We have stayed at another property in the same area several times over the past few years, but now Casa Maya will be our destination of choice. It isn't fancy, but it had everything we needed...big comfortable king-sized bed, nice kitchen and bath areas, glorious views, and best of all, great beach access. It is a little rocky going into the water but with water shoes, we had no problems and spent a lot of time out in the beautiful, crystal clear, aquamarine water right in front of Casa Maya. The staff at Playa Paradise were also very friendly and helpful. We can't wait to return to Casa Maya!
Great location, great beach, had a wonderful time. Akumal is a lovely place, no large commercial businesses to take away its appeal.

I cannot begin to explain how this place exceeded my expecations. I booked a week here with my wife for our two year wedding anniversary. I picked this place because (1) it's on the beach (ON the beach) (2) it has a full kitchen and stone grill and (3) It has a lot of privacy. That is all I wanted, and all 3 points were satisfied to the fullest. I have yet to find a place like this anywhere else in Mexico.
Some people dont like the idea of being able to cook meals on their own, or to be able to avoid beach nonsense and overbearing customer service that comes with staying at a hotel (especially in Mexico). But if you do, you should not doubt for a second that this is the place to stay in Akumal or anywhere in the Mayan riviera. This place has everything you can ask for in a relaxing caribbean vacation. The properly is very comfortable, spotless (which for anyone who has stayed on the beach or in a cabin in the woods, you know how hard it is to keep them critters away).
Akumal is a wierd town for someone who has spent a lot of time in Mexico and visited many beach towns in the country, but it provides the perfect balance between a tourist destination and an isolated getaway. While some of this might be due to the time we stayed at Casa Maya (June, low season), I cannot imagine the atmosphere in front of the property changing that much. Akumal has a bunch of things to do, but you wont want to leave the house. We went out to dinner a few times, but stocked up at the Chedraui in Tulum before arriving, so cooked every delicious meal ourselves.
You have a calm beach all to yourself with a substantial amount of snorkeling capacity. You have your own beach furniture and palapa. You have your own pet iguana, who seemed a little condescending in my opinion. You may or may not have your own pet cat, which is also somewhat condescending (but he or she is a cat, so...)
There is no point in providing more positive feedback because I read everything here and on trip advisor before making my choice, and even though that was enough to convince me the place would be amazing, I was in for a treat when I first opened the door. All that stuff about showers and beds and whatever is irrelevant. This place is flawless for being right on the beach. This place makes Cancun look like Michigan City. Yeah, I said it. If you have city folk feet like I do, yes you probably need water shoes. As soon as my wife and I can, we will return, this time with more polish & italian sausage, and a couple more pineapples.

Exactly as advertised. Perfect spot to relax in a fairly private location. We would definitely go back to Akumal and specifically to this property.

Romantic Casa Maya right on the beach in Akumal in the month of August is the perfect location to enjoy a beach holiday.

Casa Maya is located right on the beach. You cannot beat the location and the view from the living room and bedroom as well as the porch. I highly recommend it to anyone. You can snorkel right in front of the house or walk a short distance up the road to the lagoon. We had the option of daily housekeeping and, when we had trouble with our rental car, the Bahia hotel, which manages the property, was more than helpful -they were wonderful! Again, this is a great location. My only complaint would be that the skylight in the bathroom leaks a bit when it rains and the living room gets a bit damp as well near the windows. I think this makes the place a little musty, but that said, you really can't beat the location and everything about the place is great!

Total relaxing place, complete furniture, all for a fantastic stay

Overall experience was very, very good. Had to get someone to fix shower head- had no pressure just barely oozed water. I think just calcium deposits- it was fixed later the same day. Kitchen overrun with ants, need some type of traps for those guys. A/C had a weird bewildering remote- it cut off several times during the night to wake us into humid jungleness. Could have stocked kitchen with more paper towels and kitchen towel art, once even the slightest food smell brought ants out in droves. Can't say anything else even remotely negative. I counted 26 steps from back door to caribbean water- word. CAN'T WAIT TO RETURN!

This house is in a great location. It is close enough to walk to various restaurants on Half Moon Bay. We also walked farther to the more populated area by the dive shop, retail/gift shops, restaurants and the local supermarket (very expensive). We expected our stay at Casa Maya to be a more rustic experience than our previous stays at all-inclusive resorts, but it was more rustic that we expected. The house was extremely hot and the air conditioner and the ceiling fans didn't do much to cool things off. The kitchen had plenty of utensils and cooking items, but it was filled with ants and other small bugs that attacked even the smallest microscopic food particles that were on the counter or sink and even crawled all over sealed bags that were left on high shelves. It made us not want to cook or eat at the house which defeated the purpose of renting a place where we expected to cook our meals. The bed could use an upgrade. It wasn't very comfortable and neither was the couch. My husband (who needed to be in touch with work while he was there) was not pleased with the wifi. The signal was low and it was quite slow. Overall, our stay was nice and very relaxing, but it was a little more off the grid than we'd have liked.

Nothing to complain about - steps from a quiet and amazing beach/bay with incredible snorkeling, sunrises & relaxing. House was rustic, quiet, a perfect respite from the world. Minutes walk to town through a delightful community with friendly people. Its location from the big towns and highway allowed for some great day trips. Only downside was having to leave. Best 40th birthday surprise ever! :)

This house is everything you could want right on the ocean! Very quaint, rustic and romantic beach get away. Great snorkeling out your front door. We will definitely return!

We had an excellent time and the Casa Maya is a wonderful place to stay. All of the amenities were great and the location is unmatched. The only complaint is that we had a smart phone/MP3 player stolen from our place with the doors LOCKED! We suspect the grounds keeper boy as it wasn't the maids. We know this because when we returned from being gone after the maids had cleaned the phone was still there. However, after the boy had replaced the bottled water it was gone. This obviously was a huge disappointment as we felt violated due to the doors being locked. Of course the phone was never returned and we had to divide up our valuable's and cash and hide them around the place just to feel safe. We have been to Mexico several times and stayed in several places but have never had anything stolen until now. Therefore, I really should give our trip a 2 stars out of 5 instead of 4 but we did have a great time and the Casa Maya in wonderful.

Casa Maya was more than we expected. The location is incredible. Marie, the housekeeping lady, was extremely helpful, pleasant and answered all our questions. We ate most of our meals out and tried most of the restaurants, except Lo Ha. All were exceptional. The week went by too fast!

I am very grateful the owner who was so kind & generous to allow us to exchange our vows on the beach & in such a beautiful place. In the mornings when the sun was rising I was out there, capturing the fiery sky & collecting shells. The casita was spotless & well maintained when we arrived & the staff continued to go over & above their duties. The maid made up the bed most days with towel art & the yard maintenance man put together a beautiful arbour for our wedding day. Everyone was very friendly & we felt like we belonged in this amazing community. We had our reception at La Lunita Restaurant & our friends spent many happy hours at La Buena Vida, both within walking distance. The Yal Ku lagoon is a 5 minute walk & worth spending a day there. We rented bicycles as our mode of transport & got around quite easily to Turtle Bay Beach. Turtle Bay Caf? had excellent food & they made our wedding cake. Green Eyes Management will take care of all your needs. I will return again to this area & definitely stay here at Casa Maya.

We loved Casa Maya and will hopefully be returning soon. The only suggestions we have are as follows: directions to the cottage before we leave home, the cab driver had a really difficult time finding the casa, and then we had to go to the management office to get our keys etc. We were not aware of that until arrival. We did not need housekeeping every day for 2 people. It would be good to have something to display on the front door to indicate whether we wanted house keeping or not. More privacy would be most welcomed. We awoke every morning to the gardener raking out front or sweeping our patio or trimming the trees. When we go on holidays and rent a secluded cottage, we want privacy, not people wandering around the property early in the morning or during the day. I came off the beach one day to find a maid in our bedroom making our bed. We didn''t even know she was there, she never indicated that she has entered our cottage. It was a little disquieting. A few more items in the kitchen would help: metal flipper for the BBQ, foil, and a juice jug. The booklet states that there is recycling, yet the housekeeping staff took all our recycling and threw it in the garbage.
