Casa Carolina, Xcalak

Xcalak, Xcalak, Mexico

  • Off-the-Grid Boutique Hotel on the Xcalak Beach

Xcalak, the southernmost town of Quintana Roo, is located just 200 Miles from Cancún, yet it is a world away. Its lost-in-time charm, crystalline clear waters and miles of unspoiled white beaches lure divers, fishermen, and independent travelers, looking forward to getting away from it all and experiencing the raw, untamed beauty of the Caribbean.

Casa Carolina, a tiny boutique hotel painted in a shade of ‘mellow’ yellow blends in perfectly with the tropical surroundings and oozes the laid-back vibe of a small Caribbean town.

Your next home away from home in the Caribbean

With only 4 rooms, off the grid location and welcoming owners – Bob and Caroline – Casa Carolina feels like a friend’s house with a wide stretch of private beach right outside.

Designed and decorated with love and care, each of the four guestrooms faces the ocean and comes with a private bathroom, a well-equipped kitchen, and a private balcony overlooking the shimmering waters of the Caribbean. All balconies are furnished with a hammock big enough for two people to cuddle in and take siesta naps. Three of the Casa Carolina guestrooms come with a very comfortable queen-size bed and one has a full-size bed and a single bed.

The impressive number of raving positive reviews and the high percentage of returning guests, says a lot about the hotel’s service. Following a “Mi casa es tu casa” philosophy, the owners really go out of their way to make each guest feel special and welcome.

Taken care of from sunrise to sunset

Every morning a complimentary breakfast is served downstairs, including Caroline’s famous home-baked muffins. Bob, an experienced NAUI Instructor Trainer and a passionate diver, specializes in tailor made scuba and reef diving packages for small groups. Mexico’s famous barrier reef – the second largest reef in the world – lies just offshore and is well worth exploring.

Other typical day’s adventures in Xcalak include snorkeling, bird watching, boat trips, fly fishing, deep sea fishing and kayaking.

Insider’s tip: If you are planning on cooking (vs. dining out) during your stay at Casa Carolina it makes sense to buy groceries, cooking spices, sunscreen, and insect repellent in one of Cancun’s large supermarkets, as you won’t find any on your way to Xcalak. There are a couple of small corner stores in Xcalak but the selection is very limited.

To sum up – Casa Carolina is a wonderful eco-friendly boutique hotel, located in one of the most unspoiled parts of the Caribbean. If you dream about getting away from it all and getting lost in an ‘underdeveloped’ and ‘untouched’ tropical paradise, we suggest that you add Casa Carolina to your inquiry right now! With only four guestrooms and so many returning customers, you have to secure your stay well in advance.
