Costa Maya Travel Tip – Shop in town, not the port

Posted by Kay Walten in Costa Maya Activities,Mexico Destinations,Mexico Vacation Tips

Mahahual cruise ship port

Mahahual is a great Costa Maya beach town with lots to offer, so there's no wonder why Caribbean cruise ships have made it one of their major stops. So much so they even built a port filled with activities and shops to entertain their passengers. Refrain from shopping at the port shops but rather in the actual town where the prices are far more reasonable and just about everything is negotiable. Find a hotel in Mahahual.

Mahahual, Mexico

We LOVE the round design of Balamku Inn in Mahahual, Costa Maya. This eco-chic hotel is all about sustainable tourism, right down to the shampoo they provide their guests. The wind and the sun are their power sources,  all waste water supports constructed wetlands and when building they take special efforts to protect the endangered trees on their property. No wonder they were nominated one of Mexico's leading green hotels. Check out other fabulous Costa Maya hotels.

Puerto Morelos Vacation Tip – The hidden restaurant

Riviera Maya restaurant

Puerto Morelos has lots of great dining options, but one little gem we really love is Restaurante Las Palmeras. If you didn't know where it was you would walk right passed some of the freshest seafood for the best price in town!  The facade of the restaurant is easy to overlook and the restaurant itself is hidden beyond souvenir shops and a dive shop (located next to Pelicanos on the beach), but once you step inside the view is, well see for yourself. Check out the laid back fishing village...
