Pet parents are as important as child parents. You know that all you need for your kids to travel to the Riviera Maya is a passport and if needed a letter from your spouse if you are not traveling together. But if you are a pet parent how do you travel with your pet? It is becoming easy to travel with your pet, especially if your pet is small, but paperwork is required to make international pet travel seamless.
Before you travel with your pet to the Riviera Maya, make an appointment with your vet for a check up and to obtain the documents needed for travel. This should be done 2 weeks before you travel. If you are not sure about the current health of your pet, see your vet before you book your pet on the airline in case you decide that bringing your pet on vacation is just not a great idea.
Ask your vet to complete the following documents for international travel and entry into Mexico:
Check with the airline for pet travel protocol, fees and requirements for flight travel. Airlines can not advise on what you will need for entry but they can advise on what you need for air travel with their airline. Each airline is different so check pricing structures, pre-flight requirements and caging. Larger pets will be placed below deck. Smaller pets if in appropriate luggage/carry bags can fly with you but check it out first.
Mexico and the Riviera Maya allow pet parents to travel with 2 pets, so get your paper work sorted and get ready to fly with your pet on vacation!
