Tamales are famous worldwide and it is no surprise that we find really good ones in the Yucatan peninsula. Which is basically the home of the tamale. There are very few restaurants that offer tamales but to be honest the best ones are found in small stands on the street. In Tulum you can find the greatest variety of tamales: Chaya (similar to spinach), beans, pork, chicken and more! The stand is called Tamales Don Taco and you will find it in Tulum pueblo on Beta Sur street and Tulum main Avenue. The stand is open daily from 4pm to 10pm. Playa del Carmen is also home of the most delicious tamales; chicken, pork and our favorite: cheese and peppers. The stand has no name but you find the lady with a huge pot full of tamales right on 30th Avenue between 38th and 40th street. Every day from 6:00pm until midnight (or until they run out of tamales).
