-- A little piece of where we go becomes a big part of everything we do --
The very best vacations are individual journeys and each is uniquely suited to the person who chooses it. That’s why our team invests so much time and energy in researching and reporting the real Riviera Maya and Yucatan.
What you see on Loco Gringo are vacation accommodations we have personally checked out. The adventures you’ll read, we’ve lived. The restaurants? Our favorites.
We share what we know. And we share what we love.
Meet Loco Gringo
People said I was crazy when I moved to the Yucatan in ’92 to explore underwater caves. Then in 1996 I started Loco Gringo and we were doing online vacations before online vacations was even “a thing”. Crazy as it may seem I have dedicated over 20 years to exploring the area to share with you everything I love, in hopes that you discover a love for my part of the world. Yep, in the words of Paul Simon, “still crazy after all these years.”
When I was 18, I moved from California to Mexico to work at a kids’ club at a small hotel. I had a storybook beach wedding here, and now, many years later, I am a mom with a three-year-old who is always on the move. I have spent years working in vacation rentals and property management. With my experience and knowledge, I can help you find the best vacation rental, every time. Bringing your family? I am happy to give you my tips and itineraries.
I like to tell people I am a child of the world LOL! I was born and raised in Mexico, but I have lived in France and Italy, so I speak several languages. I came back to Mexico because my heart is here. I love helping people find the perfect place to stay and discover cool things to do. Living by the sea is amazing, and I can tell you the best places to paddleboard and my favorite beach clubs.
Hola! I think of myself as an ambassador of goodwill for my country and welcome you to the area. I’m from the southern part of the Yucatan. I love working for Loco Gringo. It has given me a great chance to learn English and meet all sorts of great people over the years. I am the head of bookkeeping but also our resident salsa dancer. So if you are looking for the best places to dance, just ask.
I think I have the best job in the world. As your concierge, I check out many of these activities and services first. I can tell you about swimming with the whale sharks, visiting cenotes or learning scuba diving (I was scared, but I loved it!). I’ve even been called “Vacation Siri” but my intelligence is far from artificial, I am always checking out new places and things to do to give you first-hand info, so you love your vacation. Oh, I just helped a guy with surprise engagement; so if you need a cupid to help you out, let me know. 😉
My grandfather started the first dive shop on the coast in the 1970’s, which is where I learned to dive. I was raised in the Akumal – Tulum area as a kid running around on the beach. They say history repeats itself, now I am raising my own kids here. Its great fun having my boys enjoy some of the same experiences I had growing up. I’ve been with Loco Gringo for 10 years and I love sharing my knowledge with people such as yourself who want to discover what the Riviera Maya and Yucatan are all about.
You know, I left dreary Seattle and Microsoft 12 years ago for life on the beach and never looked back. As a geek on the beach in Playa del Carmen, I ran a local English newspaper, operated an internet forum about Playa and built lots of websites. As a crazy web developer, I fit right in, as part of the team here at LG. I like running marathons, playing guitar and bass, making beer and sampling local microbrews in the area.
Well, I am the only Loco Gringo who is not in the Riviera Maya full time. My aunt lived in Mexico and worked for Loco Gringo for years until she retired. I picked up where she left off… I support the rest of the Loco Gringo team in data entry. I have only begun to scratch the surface of all there is to do in Mexico. I have loved everything I have experienced so far, and I know you will love it too, it’s awesome.
Community is very important to us, and we are an active part of our community.
