Mayaland Hotel: Chichen Itza, Yucatan Mexico
Mayaland hotel has traditionally been a refuge for archaeologists, past and present, who have always stayed here, right at the edge of the Chichen Itza ruins.

The Hotel Mayaland sits on 100 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens in the heart of the archaeological park, with its own entrance to the Maya temples. Built in 1930 by the Barbachano family, the hotel has been totally refurbished and expanded in the 1990's with the addition of Maya bungalows amidst its gardens completed in 1998.

You may choose to stay in the main house with breathtaking views of the Maya temples or in the bungalows located among flowering tropical gardens and soaring royal palms. Anyone coming to see the ruins and spend a few nights in the Chichen Itza area could not find a more wonderful place to stay. At Mayaland all you need do is walk a few paces and you are inside the archaeological zone amid the temples and plazas of Chichen Itza. Mayaland has a history itself and was actually the original temporary home of the first archaeologists to work the site, hence it has the ambiance of the historical haciendas of Yucatan, with refinment and old world luxuries that cannot be duplicated by latter day imitations. Actually, since Mayaland is the only hotel this close to the archaeological zone it is absolutely unique. The gardens are lush and green and the royal palms tower over the landscaping adding to the palatial effect. At least one of the hallways faces the magnificent Caracol observatory temple within the zone.

The main wing of the Hotel Mayaland has 55 rooms and 5 multi-room guest suites. In addition, individual, dual and three-unit villas are nestled among the trees and flowers of the beautifully landscaped grounds. Hand-carved mahogany woodwork and delicate stained glass compete for attention with the many exotic birds and butterflies that are perennial resident guests of the gardens. The villas all have large shaded terraces and verandahs, a perfect place for relaxing after a day among the Mayan temples.

With four restaurants on site guests can feast on Mayan specialty dishes or enjoy traditional Mexican, American and Continental entrees. Each night their elegant courtyard offers full dinners that highlight the finest cuisine of the Yucatan. Breakfast and lunch buffets offer a wide selection of tasty delights. their pool-side grill prepares burgers, sandwiches, tacos and other casual fare. A large portion of the food they serve is grown on the hotel grounds in their extensive vegetable gardens and fruit orchards.

Experience tradition, style and luxury as you lounge beside either of their 3 swimming pools you may be serenaded by strolling musicians. At cocktail hour each evening their Jarana dancers perform native dances in whirls of graceful color. Their stables offer horseback tours to old Chichen located a few kilometers from the main ruins. Private guides are available for an in-depth tour of the magnificent temples of Chichen Itza, and at night the sound and light show paints a vivid, dramatic picture of the Mayan civilization. Throughout your day you will find their courteous, friendly staff is eager to do everything they can to make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.
