Piedra Escondida, Tulum hotel, Tulum beach, Mexico
Barefoot pleasures on the beach

This enchanting little eight room hotel has its own private beach and nothing but sand from your door to anywhere on the grounds. Onsite restaurant too.

It's a sunny scene where you can bake in the rays or chill in the shade sipping a cerveza under the restaurant's big palapa roof. Kick back and chill, sometimes doing nothing is better than doing anything else. Piedra Escondida is in the middle of a micro village of beach front establishments including restaurants, lodging, gift stores, a couple convenience stores, and unique Mexican arts, crafts and jewelry (for that special gift you won't find at the airport). Down the coconut road are more laid back cool spots, more awesome Tulum beach; then comes the Sian Ka'an Biosphere reserve, a million plus acres of tropical habitat for thousands of exotic species. Rent a car if you really want to get out an see what's around. You'll be back because no one can see it all in one vacation. This is a tropical mainland, not an island, and there's plenty to see and do.

Up the road just a few kilometers north are the famed ruins of Tulum, the "walled city", encircled in stone for defense. History says the Maya called it Zama (to the dawn) because it faces east on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean; an awesome sight not to be missed. More Maya ruins include nearby Muyil and Coba, or the more distant ruins of Ek Balam and Chichen Itza. Also in the neighborhood are cenotes (natural freshwater pools) Mother Nature's oasis in the jungle and doorways to Quintana Roo's most unique feature, underground rivers that course through submerged caves. For something more mainstream visit the Riviera Maya's eco-parks or have a night out on the town in the Tulum Pueblo or happening Playa del Carmen where you can party till dawn. Please plan to drive safely! Your room at Piedra Escondida will be ready for your return.
