Inside and the beach This is a dramatic house with a thatched cathedral ceiling over the circular living room and a nice view of the sea from every room. The second floor interior balcony looks down on the living room which has a row of panoramic windowed doors facing the sea and beach. There is plenty of room in the living room which has a coffee table, chairs and a comfortable couch. The kitchen is conveniently adjacent to the living room for entertaining. All the counter tops in the kitchen are luxurious black granite and the kitchen is fully equipped with the major appliances, microwave, blender, etc., plus an island. To the side of the kitchen is the dining area with a glass door that opens to the beach side of the house. A furnished patio is just outside with lounge chairs on the patio for sunbathers and a hammock or two under the fringe of the circular palapa roof. Also on the first floor of the house is one bedroom with a king size bed, ocean view bathroom with blue tile shower and a private entrance from the beach. A sandy path goes from the sea side patio to Mariposa's shade palapa on the beach. Lounges and a hammock chair provide a shady place to enjoy the beach, view and breeze. This section of Tankah beach is well suited for sunbathing with fine sand and a high degree of privacy right in front of the villa. This is also an excellent place to see the sunrise with your first cup of coffee in the morning, or have a cocktail at sunset.
Second floor and rooftop Upstairs are two more bedrooms with private ocean view decks and private bathrooms. One has a king size bed and a lovely tiled garden bath with green plants for accent. There is a double vanity sink as well. The other bedroom has two twin canopied beds. Mahogany doors with large glass panels open from both these bedrooms to totally separate private ocean view decks. The house is cooled by the Caribbean trade winds and the fresh breeze is delightful, as is the view. There are ceiling fans throughout the house as well.
The second floor landing is very open with a balcony over the living room and a winding staircase to the rooftop observation deck. From the roof an amazing panoramic view of greater Tankah Bay and the Caribbean can be enjoyed. This is another prime location to see either the sunrise or sunset.
Nearby attractions Tankah Bay has two restaurant/bars as of this writing. One at Casa Cenote, serving lunch and dinner, and another at Blue Sky Hotel, serving breakfast and dinner. Both are usually open every day. Both are located mid-bay near Manatee Cenote which is a wonderfully refreshing freshwater swimming/snorkeling spot. There is great snorkeling out in Tankah Bay which is very wide and has a distant outer reef break to limit the surf on windy days. Plenty of fish and coral are out in the bay and the kayaking is also excellent. Tulum ruins, the pueblo of Tulum, and Tulum's amazing beaches are 10 minutes south. And the sea side tourist town of Akumal is about 20 minutes north. Both have shopping, more powdery beaches and a number of beach bar/restaurants. Tankah is positioned well for any number of day adventures to Mayan ruins, eco-parks, beaches and other vacation towns on the Riviera Maya, especially day or nighttime excursions to shop or dine in Playa del Carmen which is about 40 minutes north.
