Boca Paila Fishing Lodge has an international reputation as one of the best saltwater flats fishing establishments in the Atlantic or Caribbean. Here in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve a winning combination occurs when freshwater and brackish estuaries intermingle with the complex shallow water reef system. This is an ideal habitat for highly sought after game fish.
Boca Paila is best known for its superb bonefishing and unparalleled permit population. The lagoons also have plenty of snook, tarpon, barracuda, jack crevalle and cubera snapper. The opportunity to catch the coveted "Grand Slam" (bonefish, tarpon and permit caught the same day) and "Super Slam" (bonefish, tarpon, permit and snook caught the same day) definitely exists here, as the photos on the lodge's walls will attest.
For non anglers, the beach and eco-tours are an excellent way to stay entertained. Eco-tours into the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve can be booked in advance or on location after you arrive. There are tours offered to the Mayan ruins of Tulum, Coba and Muyil, and you can even try your hand at kite boarding (lessons), right off the beach in front. The beach has plenty of fine sand out into the water and there are chaise lounges on the beach for sunbathing.
The bungalows are all beach front with two double beds, private bathroom with shower, 24 hour electricity, coffee maker, sitting area, bureau for clothes and a screened-in front porch with a couple chairs. Just outside the bungalows are coconut palms, a few hammocks and chaise lounges for sunbathing. There are also additional tables with umbrellas and chairs for dining or snacking next to the beach. The bungalows and main lodge are right next to each other and both have the same great beach view.
Inside the lodge there is a lounge area with TV and sofas for socializing. Adjacent to the lounge is the main dining room and bar. Their full service bar has a collection of wines and liqueurs, cozy seating for several people and an upright piano. The walls are covered with photos of smiling anglers holding large fish (plenty of Grand Slams are recorded here).
Boca Paila Fishing Lodge is built very close to the beach and can host 18 guests in nine beach bungalows. The boats are on the lagoon side of the property about a 2 minute walk away from the lodge. The potential fishing grounds start right off the dock and continue through miles of mangrove lined corridors and large lagoons. This is the unspoiled beauty of the upper Sian Ka'an, an extremely important natural habitat for thousands of bird, fish and animal species. This natural inland waterway continues south until it ends at Bahía de la Ascensión and Punta Allen.
