Barcelo Colonial Beach & Tropical Beach resorts are next door to Barcelo Caribe and Beach

 The Barcelo Maya Colonial and Tropical Beach resorts are built right next door and just north of the original Barcelo Maya Caribe and Beach resort sections. They offer additional a la carte specialty restaurants and lots of water. Yes, water, which seem to be everywhere framing the colorful service buildings, their walkways and tropical landscape. Shallow pools and fountain fringe the common areas, restaurants, lobbies, etc., giving a lovely ambiance and helping to keep even the exterior aspects of the resort cooler.
Guests staying at the Colonial and Tropical sections have full access to all areas of the resort, including the Caribe and Beach sections, but guests staying at the Beach and Caribe sections are not supposed to visit the newer air conditioned buffets or a la carte restaurants in Colonial and Tropical sections. They ARE allowed to use the other facilities however. Barcelo Maya Colonial and Tropical are, for all intents and purposes, the same resort. Guests in either have access to the exact same facilities which include everything the Barcelo Maya has to offer. Barcelo Maya is one of the best resorts on the coast with an excellent private beach location and equally excellent services and amenities.
