Monthly Spotlight Features for January 2001

Each Month LocoGringo.com will feature different destinations, interesting places to stay, cultural articles and things to do along the Caribbean coastline of Mexico and Belize.

Belize, once known as British Honduras, is the only English speaking country in Central America and is the newest addition to Loco Gringo.  Belize is a destination for the adventurous, nature oriented tourist.  Whether you are into bird watching, horse back riding, canoeing, caving or scuba diving, Belize has it.  Scuba diving is the most popular activity in the Cayes.  Loco Gringo is headed down to the Cayes next month to finish up that part of the site.   Belize, as a country, does not have all the refinements of the Riviera Maya.  It does, however, have tremendous raw natural beauty and a growing number of high quality resorts.  Even if it is not a destination for you, visit our site and just enjoy the information and photos.  Please visit our newest site.

Restaurants

Here is an update on some restaurants along the Riviera Maya...  Above is some of the tasty dishes from a restaurant formerly called, "Food"in Playa del Carmen.  After renovating the restaurant it is now "Noodles and Babes ".  Run by Lena and Pere from Sweden, they specialize in Thai dishes like Pad Thai Chicken and Green Curry with vegetables and pork.  This is a haven for vegetarians.  Everything is delicious and fresh.  They are located on Calle 10 between 5th Avenue and 10th.  Open Monday-Saturday noon - 11 pm.

Sasta Cafe and Bistro on 5th Avenue across from Media Luna, offers the best coffees in Playa. Open daily, this little cafe has expresso, mocha, and their "Coffee de la Casa" is flavorful and strong.  They also have a Bistro at 5th Avenue and Constuyentes, which has a wonderful menu for breakfast and lunch.

Turtle Bay Cafe , an Akumal favorite is open for dinner on Friday's and Saturdays.

Lol Ha Restaurant , offers Prime Rib on Thursday and Friday nights.  Sunday is all you can east Pasta Bar with seafood and vegetarian selections and everyday you can get fresh oysters on the half shell.

Loco Gringo has not been there but the reports are good on a new restaurant on Xpu Ha Beach,  take the dirt road right before the Copacabana and there is a sight for Casa del Mar .  A small restaurant on the beach.  nothing fancy, but people say that the food is good.
