the beach at Mescalitos
Mescalito's Beach and Restaurant

The most extensive beaches on Cozumel island are on its windward side facing east. During spring and summer these are turtle nesting beaches with little development, just a few restaurants and gift shops. For those who are renting a car or moped this is a fantastic place to come and escape the crowds.  There can be undertow on the east side but two spots are usually calm enough for swimming these are Chen Rio and Punta Chiqueros, both are near Punta Moreno and both are in sheltered coves.

Area Beaches  "Quick Reference"
Playa Oriente and the east side of the island.  Almost the entire east side offers secluded natural beaches where you can walk in the white sand for what seems to be miles.  You will not find swarms of people on the east side, only people who are looking for a quiet piece of paradise.  Restaurants and bars dot the coastline for your convenience.
