Playa del Carmen after hurricane Wilma Riviera Maya, Mexico

» Post hurricane Wilma photo/info updates

The following pictures were taken October 27th, 6 days after hurricane Wilma hit the northeast Yucatan peninsula. The vacation destinations hardest hit were Cozumel, Puerto Morelos and Cancun. I do not have photos of those places here but I do have pictures of Playa del Carmen's north beach area and main beach. I can also tell you that the people are highly motivated and are quickly rebuilding and reinforcing their oceanfront assets. Heavy equipment is busy scooping and pushing sand back onto the beach in locations where it has been displaced. 5th Avenue and most Playa del Carmen businesses are open and plenty of tourists are there. Playa is recovering rapidly from the storm. All these pictures were taken Oct 27, 2005.
