Xaloc Resort is a small eco-hotel facing the Gulf of Mexico on Isla Holbox's wide, white sandy beach. Xaloc Resort is a fine example of the classic Maya/Mexican Caribbean style using steep palapa roofs, massive wooden post and beam construction, and handcrafted walls of textured cement stucco.
The boardwalk entrance to Xaloc Resort is shaded by palms and tropical trees leading from the all-sand street in front to reception. The other way into Xaloc is via the beach which passes by one of Xaloc's two swimming pools. The beach is one of Isla Holbox's main attractions featuring a wide swath of pure sand punctuated by beach side accommodations and restaurants. For a town that is actually on the Gulf of Mexico, Isla Holbox has all the flavor of a little Caribbean island. Isla Holbox is a fine place to relax and disconnect from the big city. Walk for hours along the beach, pick up shells, enjoy a siesta in a hammock or a revitalizing massage, or just drop on one of the beach-beds and let the sun warm you.
Their casita/bungalows are quite comfortable; all are air conditioned and feature paints in warm earth/sea tones, floors of Mexican tile, and furnishings made of regional hardwoods. Interior walls have a free-form texture with wooden corners to soften hard edges. The bedrooms have either a king canopied bed or two double beds. Bathrooms have ample sink space with twin bowls, walk-in shower, separate toilet area, and towel rack with shelf for clothes. The Beach Bungalows are the closest to the sea with a full sea/beach view. Next closest are the Garden Bungalows, then the Pool Bungalows, and finally the Superior Rooms (regular hotel rooms) at the back of the hotel (for adults only).
Xaloc Resort consists of 18 rooms, 2 swimming pools, a restaurant, a reading or gaming room, a small arts craft shop, and a beach bar. The hotel is managed by its owners, Goncha and JuanFe, a Spanish couple from Mallorca who chose Isla Holbox to realize their own dream. They and their team will make sure that your Holbox experience is unforgettably beautiful.
Xaloc Resort is member of the "Hoteles Boutique de Mexico", a group of 30 hotels of unique Mexican style, that have been selected and qualified as "boutique" for their intimate size, idyllic location and personalized service.
For nature lovers, on Isla Holbox you can observe different species of birds like herons, pelicans, flamingos and spoon bills; kayak through the mangroves, or join a crocodile boat tour at night. And don't miss seasonal snorkel trips to swim with whale sharks and manta rays. Another nighttime event is to watch marine turtle lay their eggs. It's all possible on Isla Holbox.
